Of the ones I own, I can come up with two that are underrated:

Around the World in A Day & Musicology


Not many people speak highly of them. Well in Musicology's case.

People like ATWIAD, but there are always albums that are "better". (1999 & SOTT, even Parade are spoken more highly of)


I don't think any of mine are overrated, though. I feel the same about 3121 as a lot of people here do. It's not exceptional, but I don't think it's terrible either.

Musicology was a bit overrated but the tour was AWESOME

When I was a kid PARADE was my favorite Prince record for a long time, and I loved those string arrangements. I thought they were bizarre and off-kilter. Totally creative. And there IS hard funk on that record. It aint Lady Cabdriver, but that's OK. Songs like Lady Cabdriver, Controversy, Sexuality are pretty arty if you think about it. Especially in the context of the times. Prince always wanted to moved forward and expand the limits of the genre. He was never a funk essentialist. It was never RE-HASH to him.

Stop overrating Purple Rain. Its popular cause it's GOOD (for once). If anything, its When Doves Cry that's overrated.
