Early Prince vs. Post-90's (the debate that never died)

I was talking 2 another org member when i discovered my own personal resolution considering which is better...

i love the young, raw, nasty, crazy, creppy, dirty, filthy, freaky... (okay got lost there) quality of princes early (post dirty mind) material.

but i equally love the wise, and steady quality of prince's older (post lovesexy) material.

Sister and Jack U Off are too punk for most people i know (even the ones who claim to understand the punk is an attitude/stance, not a genre)

but, A Case of U and Song of the Heart sound like a wise rabbi (in the non-religous sense) sharing what he's learned, ya know?

His music is too interesting to be caught up worrying if he's preachy or cheeky.

There's so many eras to imbibe in, you should be held accountable if you cant dig it.

I say like what you (you = fans in general, not you specifically) like and

a) quit worrying whether anyone else agrees with you, opinions on music don't need validation

b) also, don't act like a fool and insult people for not agreeing with your choices. Your opinion on music is no better than anyone else's. Music is an art form and all thoughts are valid.

For some people Dirty Mind really gets their juices flowing, others think Chaos & Disorder is the bees knees. It's all good.

Having spent the last 3 months here and in Prince's world, I have seen why people tend to not like his recent stuff compared to his older material.

Among the first albums I bought were Musicology & 3121 and I don't regret my purchases. Sure, they don't contend with the brilliance of TGE or the great 80's sound of PR... but they have their strong points too.

Musicology is full of personality and I feel it holds tales of wisdom that he has gained throughout his career... bringing real music back, that sort of thing. There's a certain genius to that, so I can't help but appreciate it.

3121 is weak as a whole, but it has certain tracks that remind me of previously shown brilliance. I've compared "Money Don't Matter 2night" to "The Word" because in diff. ways, they show a certain brilliance that Prince has always had. "The Word" had incredible instrumentals, just the right mix of everything. "Money" has that same sort of sophistication and it was written 10+ years ago... meaning that inside, Prince has always been the same musical genius and incredible person I saw him to be.

Prince @ present is different from 80's Prince, but they both have their strengths. It'd be rude to cancel out Prince @ present just because he doesn't do what he used to... he's still makes good music and that's all that really matters, right?
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I'm from the former category.

I cannot get enough of the early Prince, pre-Purple Rain. His sound was so innovative, and this era of his work does not get enough recognition.
