Does anybody remember the New Breed? Prince had a fan club I can't remember if it was 1985 ,86,87. Did anybody actually belong to it and do you remember what the merchandise was for the club?

I've always wondered about this!
There is an address to write to on the back of some albums. I think later on this mail was redirected to Controversy, but I've never seen any New Breed Newsletters or Merchandise or anything, ever !

When I bought the 'SOTT' album in 1987,there was an orange postcard included. You were supposed to send it in to receive info on Prince's fan club, which I think was called The New Breed.I sent mine in,but the only thing I received was an advertisement for the Good Question album

Yeah! I sent that New Breed note in the mail when I got the Sign O The Times Album... (about the time that If I was your Girlfriend was flopping on the radio) but heck nothing ever came back. Controversy Magazine was the only well organized Prince community that ever completely reached the world during those days.

I was in it & received some cool stuff. When I initially joined, they sent me the Purple Rain tour program, a fold-out poster magazine, & some other stuff I can't remember.
Later I received a folder (like one of those Mead school folders) with the cover photo of the "U Got The Look" single printed on it. Inside it was a small folded SOTT-era Prince poster, some photographs from the "America" video shoot, a photo from UTCM, a newsletter, & some other photos I can't recall. During the 2 Christmases I was in the club, they sent me Paisley Park X-Mas cards "signed" by P. Somewhere along the line they also sent me a cool 10x10 B&W photo of Prince as Christopher Tracy that has become one of my most favorite photos of Prince. I think there were some other things, newsletters & whatnots, but it's been a while since I've dug into those boxes. But the B&W photo is still prominently displayed in my apartment!

I got my New Breed pack:
It was a color folder with the U Got The Look pic on the cover (white faux fur), inside flap had some SOTT concert photos, a Prince enamel pin (name spelled like purple rain) I remember because it damaged my folder, a new breed poster of Prince, flyer for the good question cd, along with a word serch puzzle, a form to buy sweat shirts and t-shirts. I was happy beacuse it was the Sign O era. I ordered a shirt and a sweat and the Sign o the times movie poster and peach poster with just the lyrics to the song in black. It also came with a membership plastic card, new breed in paisley shape. I was happy to get anything. It arrived quicker than my Crystal ball cd set!!1 ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

I became a member in 83, and though almost everything else has been long since lost, I still have managed to hold onto a couple items. I used to have the coolest Prince collectables. Oh well. I know you can still get a lot through e-bay, but it isn't the same as when you first got it way back when.

Anybody still got their Around the World in a Day Christmas card -- I think it had "The Ladder" on it, with small gifts underneath? Or how about one of the unique posters from the Parade period? I used to have an official foil movie poster of Under The Cherry Moon, and all the other movies too. I forget what we got in 84, but I still have the Purple Rain "Prince" pin from then. Oh well, I stopped my Prince-worship long ago, but still enjoy keeping in touch.
