Dream Factory Final Configuration Since Anx is online at the moment...
Which versions of Crystal Ball, Place in Heaven and Witness should've made the final cut. I think I prefer the outtakes of each. Witness is rockier almost like something from the C & D album. I rather Prince singing A Place in Heaven, I think Lisa sometimes sounds too much like Dolly Parton but her version is gorgeous too. Pity the quality of the outtake isn't quite as good. And I don't much care for Crystal Ball but I think the 11 minute version might be the best. The one on the album is too sparse and I have a hard time listening to it the whole way through. And still on comparisons I would opt for the SOTT version of Strange Relationship over the Revolution version. That Yeah Yeah doesn't cut in early enough for me at the end.

hhmmmmm....now I got to go back and listen to them again...
But I have really been getting into the outtakes...I love to hear Prince's vocals. For example, I was just listening to Mazariti's version of Kiss and Prince's outtake version...too cool. I love to hear Prince sing the song "I'll never be another fool" on an outtake and then to hear Chaka Khan sing it...priceless! [Edited 5/3/07 18:54pm] "A united state of mind will never be divided

i like the SOTT version of "strange relationship" better, though i think the original version is a refreshing alternative to the version we've all heard a billion times...for whatever that's worth. i like 'em both.
and i don't think there's a version of "witness" i don't like, though if i were pressed to choose one, i'd go with the rockier sounding version. tough to choose between the lisa and prince versions of "place in heaven". i think there's something borderline pretty/psycho about lisa's singing voice, which i think brings an interesting contrast. i'd keep her version in, or i dunno, maybe even edit it together as a duet or mix the vox so it sounds as if they're singing together. i do like lisa's version a lot, though. as for CB, it could use some shaving. it's phenomenal the first time you hear it, then after that it's like "yeah, yeah, yeah..." - maybe an edit version and the full length on a 12"?
