prince should fire cora from band

of course prince runs the show and nobody should say what he's got to do,
but
when somebodys non ability to play something in the right way affects the music itself then there is a problem.

i mean just listen to shhh intro peformed by cora,
its just lacks something
compared to michael bland
and john blackwell.
prince didn't realy exploated john blackwells
drumming to the levels he could.
ok prince explored fusion jazz
using
john
but what about hard rock and other genres he plays???

i'm scared to think how powerful fury would sound with john b on drums.

also correct me if im wrong but josh is prince's bassist with the
smallest personalty of all bass players prince ever had.

maybe he plays the righ notes but where is the monster groove of larry graham, andre, brown mark ,sonny t or the smooth bass by rhonda?
thank god prince brought renato neto back but its sad to think that just 3 years ago prince had one of the tightest bands on the planet,
his present band is rather mediocrite.

cora's fine. far from the best, but she keeps the beat and it looks like this incarnation of the band is less about individual strengths than it is about making prince look good front and center.

i say give shelby the heave-ho...or at most, let her open for him so people who wanna watch her can and the rest of us can go troll the merch tables and load up on overpriced stadium beer. nod

I went to the show on April 21 and Cora was doing an awesome job. Nothing wrong with her abilities. If Prince did not think she is capable of doing her job he would of let her go already.

^ but what a song!
I haven't heard Cora play, but I have heard "Shhh" and could not imaging it without heavy drums.... to me that is what makes the song, that and the guitar solo.... along with the guitar solo at the end, it is one of Prince's hottest songs.

I have listened to Shhh..intro from the 3121 sets and Cora is a drumming master. What you have to realize is that each drummer has their own technique and style. I happen to love John Blackwell, I love Sheila E, but John by far was the best drummer that Prince ever had. I think that Cora is rich in her drumming. Plus, sometimes, I think Prince surrounds himself with the musicians that he is feeling at a certain moment and time. Blackwell was for a very precious season as well as Michael Bland. But, you can't take from Cora's mastery. For what is happening now, Cora is the one.

As as far as Shelby, Prince needs someone who can sing, period. Shelby can sang...razz

3121

I have heard all the availible 3121 boots. The band is far from great. Renato is on point as always. The drums have alot to be desired. Cora was making an awful lot of timing mistakes. How old is she? this must be a great oppurtunity to develop and grow. Maybe thats what Prince is doing, trying to develop them. I don't know. What i do know is that this band are far from tight and certainly lack the ability to 'mind read' musically, so to speak. The gold Experience band had it best. Not that they are my fave band, but its undeniable that they just 'locked' musicaly and intuitively. Tight.

has anybody gotten a solo yet too besides renato and Horns?

I fully agree with u. He should have kept John B. longer in his band (as far as I'm concerned :forever). And that new bass player is the worst bass player he ever had in his band. Renato is as always: excellent.

disbeliefI know. Prince.org can be a cold hearted bunch sometimes...I figure it this way, the girl has a gig and apparently there was something that Prince liked about her and Josh, so let it be. Cora and Josh are fine musicians. People were talking smack about Bobby Z and other Prince musicians in the past. But check it....at least she is a "paid" musician, a lot of us can't say that we are.... razz razz

josh is good bass player but he didn't add any flavour to prince sound.

Well, hey, you remember Rhonda because she has been the key bass player for Prince for close to ten years..give Josh a break yall...he is good. I think that this configuration of Prince's band is overshadowed to some degree because they are in Vegas. Let them do a tour and see the level that they rise too. The way Prince drives his musicians before they go on tour is suppose to be relentless. Just wait and see..no doubt, no diggity! razz razz

Come on. Don't u have ears? I play bass myself. Compare Josh to Rhonda Smith, Sonny T, Levi, Brown Mark. I am not saying Josh is a bad bass player, but the worst of those I just mentioned.

I'm just wondering why P. choose Cora to be his drummer. P. is in a position where he can chose the most brilliant musicians to work with. I mean, who would say no when P. would ask u 2 join his band. So why chose a mediocre drummer when u can chose anything u'd like. Could it be that Cora is not only his drummer, but also his groupie? hmmm He is single right? And has a large libido. Go figure.
