We as humans need to have a bit more restraint, than to just jump on the first thing we hear, for anyone that's been in Prince's presents they know he has his bodygaurds on pointe, they are never that relaxed...

There has been sooo many false stories about him,
I wonder if he ever fought back. (And I don't mean setting a bad review on fire : Arsenio Hall '93)

why does the media lie?
why did prince manipulate the media to get where he is? how come other artist are allowed their privacy? (think joni mitchell, bruce springsteen, bob dylan) its doublesided..prince allowed himself to be made into a freakshow for the media...all to make some $$$... other artist have learned to balance the media life *and* personal...Harrison Ford is always commenting on how he is allowed to live a normal life (and this is the best selling actor of all time)...Id Prince didnt want to be hounded by the media, maybe he shouldnt have acted like Anne Heche all the time... if this is in reference to the recent msnbc online column? its a lil bitty column that nobody pays attention too and wasnt even picked up by any other media outlet...

Actually Skleton, it was reported ALL over the MEDIA Overseas.
Two Major papers overe there "tabloid" papers but bigger then the Enquire picked it up. The sad thing is, he was not even in the UK. It was a stunt pulled by a Prince look-alike Guy looked nothing like Prince. Looked like Enrique Iglisis without the mole n a few pounds over. Sorry but Sir Jac n Princetopher look WAY more Like Prince then this fool did. I bet he can't even clap on the 2 n 4. It all comes with the territory.Prince is an internationally known celebrity. When you're famous, there will always be lies, gossip and rumors being spread about you.You have to have a thick skin to survive in show business.
But as long as people are STILL talking about you, that's a good thing. When the media stops paying attention, that's when your career is almost over.

But herin lies the Problem. You see us fellow Prince fans Know it's all lies and bull crap, but the regular public Believes this. This Hurts the Star because people go look at Prince so Arrogant and look at his security team. People eat this National Enquirer Gossip Crap up! I don't buy those stupid papers anymore. And how about Mr.Blackwell ragging in People magazine about Prince and his clothing? Or how about the Star magazine ragging on the different Star's clothing? Why do we pick on Celebrities and why can't they have their Freedom and Privacy to be left alone and be able to eat and enjoy life like regular people do? I can understand a picture here or an interview there, however my God,they really don't have to go out of their way to Harass the Star! I think basically the Star should just do the Publicity and shoosh them away as soon as possible. Really now!

At this point in the game,I don't think Prince can really change the public's perception of him. He's been a well-known celebrity for over 20 years. And,let's be honest,he has pretty much created alot of those perceptions with his sometimes bizarre behavior. The same goes for Michael Jackson and others. At any rate,I don't think Prince really cares about what the media writes about him anyway.

Not necessarily. People know the things they're reading in tabloid papers are filled with nonsense, yet they keep buying 'em.

If there is any star who has perfectly been using the media to create a myth its Prince. I agree that there has been many fucked up stories.they will always be there, because there will always be bad journalists just like there always will be bad musicians. however, Prince is known to perfectly guide news about him in the right channels, controling what will be released and what he prefers to remain private. It has always helped him, and thanks to the media prince is who he is today. example: the emancipation-period. prince NEEDED media attention to make his fight with WB public, he wanted to understand people that he indeed was not a free artist. there has NEVER been a period in his career wher he agreed to give so many interviews. however, the problem was, prince at that time had already lost his international super-star-status, so many newspapers and magazines didnt care about him anymore. what did he do? he came up with the name-change, knowing the media would find this idea mad enough to write about it. he failed to convince with music, so he came up with something else.
next example: the release of "Rave", his last attempt to produce a chart success. again, he gave shitty interviews to shitty magazines, he even played embarrassing TV-shows (for example he performed at shows equivalent to "Ricki Lacke" or "The wheel of fortune"). He sunk very low. when you try to play with the media like that, the media will play with you. a star is never popular enough to walk out of this mutual relationship as a winner. at this point, I can assuer you, there is no or only very little interest in Prince. Over here in Germany, which used to part of his largest fanbase, you will rarely find anything about him anymore. at least in the media landscape of my country there is a single rule which decides your career: a. if you decide to not cooperate with any media at all, if you wish that all will remain private, your wish will be respected. you will just have to be very, very consequent and you will be able to live a life outside out the tabloids. b. if you decide to break rule a. because you feel like you need to talk to one particular newspaper, TV- journalist or music mag, its all over. they will hunt you down. they will have no respect for you, ever. you will be there when they need you, they will write about you what they feel like, even if its based on a rumor. and if you then decide not to play with them, they will destroy you. prince unfortunately has always pretended to play after point a. but he has broken that ideal, because he thought he could use the media for his cause. that was his mistake, thats why many people in the biz have lost their respect for him. he is, yes, considered as a serious artits by the serious papers, but his is marked as a freak. If this is about the recent pictures in the tabloids in the UK, then the media is not wholly to blame for this one. If they are guilty of anything its not doing their homework. Afterall, the look-alike fooled them. They didnt deliberately run a story knowing that it wasnt him. They guy posing as Prince did exactly what he set out to do. To fool the media and get some attention.
I wouldnt even put it past Prince to have set something up like that anyway, Any publicity is good publicity before a tour, and he can always deny it was him if it ever back fired... It was all pretty harmless stuff anyway... This time round in any case. Anyway, I aint defending the tabloids, they are a bunch of wankers. They revel in the task of bringing the great and the good down. Not least the Sportsmen and women who are performing for their country! That is more serious than the rich and famous gossip... Much worse...
