UK Prince Club 87 - 89 The Revolution/Crystal Ball

Are there any UK people out there who were members of the club "The Revolution" which later became "Crystal Ball"? I think the founder was called Chris Dawson and his club/Prince shop was based in Leeds. I seem to remember he organised a Prince party and things went wrong and the club kind of disappeared... Does anybody know any more about this incident and perhaps what actually happened to the guy/club?

The actual "fanzines" produced by the club were of superb quality with excellent quality photos. However they often went on far too much about the harm we would be doing to Prince if we dared buy a Black album bootleg...

Didn't Chris Dawson get done for bootlegging, or am I way off the mark?

I remember that story I believe it was in Controversy or supposedly he ripped off a lot of fans who bought merchandise or joined his club. Actually he never ripped me off and was actually quite cool with the magazines and t-shirts. Funny he did have a t-shirt that said don't buy the Black album and it was a big to do. Actually Prince's first Fan club was called the New Breed.

During the '90 tour he tried to re-start a fanzine, giving out the first one free. There was an offer of subscription for 12 months. I don't know if anyone subscribed but there were no more issues !

I can't remember the whole story, but I'm sure it had something to do with bootleging and ripping fans off.
I have a copy of Crystal Ball around somewhere, from '88.
I remember it being OK, but never "Superb quality" !

Oh, was this the old 'Truth Angel' fanzine?

Remember when Prince did that Xperiment in Truth thing and sent a CD of The War out to key contacts around the globe, then you had to send a CD-R to them and it wld come back with The War on it!!

Ah...the days before Broadband!!
