That song is a'ight.
I like Where Doves Fly better, though. It's my favorite.

*Technically* the band wasn't officially called The Revolution until Purple Rain, unless you want to count the backward scribbling on the 1999 album. [Edited 4/30/07 20:01pm] Correct me if I'm wrong but somehow I remember the word Revolution attributed to the band members scribbled in spray paint on the album sleeve of the Dirty Mind LP..you know the one where P has on those long black stockings...help me out here somebody...

I just wondered how Prince felt about that - if it was hard to give up some of his musical control/influence. And by the way, I can't stand that song - Mountaineer, Modernaire, whatever. I think it's a bad song. P felt like he should give Dez, I think on an emotional level, a spotlight in the flim cuz he knew in his heart just HOW much Dez had done for P. Musically, visually, etc. So, I think it was a "thank you" of sorts. Also at the same time, he knew he just HAD to have Dez in there somewhere for his fans. Dez, next to P, was by far the most popular and most visually strong out of the band. EVERYONE who was remotely familiar with P at the slightest, knew who the guy with the headband was. In many cases, he stood out more than P did. So, he had to be featured in the film. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I don't remember exactly when Dez opted to leave the Prince camp, but it was documented (in DMSR) that Prince continued to support him for quite awhile after that. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Not that I can recall, no, but my vinyl is all stashed away in the closet at this point so I can't be sure. However, I don't remember anyone ever mentioning that before now.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a clean copy of the complete song? I think I heard Dez had released a career retrospective project a couple years back. Is that true? Yes. Dez did release a large set of unreleased and out-of-print stuff. It contains the full song Modernaire and the wonderful '80s gem, The Beat. It can be purchased from Dez himself, autographed, for $50 from his website. He has also been known to auction them off on Ebay. I don't have it, but I've heard that the packaging is quite a let-down. I think $50 is kinda steep, to be honest. I have it. Frankly, the only song worth anything is "Modernaire". If you order it from Dez, be prepared to wait. I think it took him 6 weeks or more to ship my copy. The packaging is OK. No pictures of Prince or Prince stuff, if I recall correctly. But if you've been craving a picture of Dez with Billy Idol, well you're in luck!

I checked the 7", 12" and LP sleeves, but didn't see it. Maybe "Revolution" was on a poster or something during that era, I don't recall. http://sleevographia2.fre...0AUS11.htm If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

LMAO! You mean a hatchback Mountaineer, don't you? If they'd have waited a few years, they could have cleaned up from the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company!

He sold his Prince era custom Explorer (from the Little Red Corvette solo and video) on Ebay a while back too. I think it went for about $1500 bucks.
