PRINCE RAN AWAY FROM ANGRY POPS STAPLES

PRINCE once had to run away from an irate ROEBUCK 'POPS' STAPLES - because he made the mistake of calling the late soul great 'Junior'. Prince had invited Staples, who died in 2000, to appear with his daughter Mavis Staples on a TV special he hosted in the early 1990s when he made his faux-pas. Mavis Staples recalls, "Pops is sitting there on his stool, tinkering with his guitar. "Prince walked up to him and said, 'Are you going to sing tonight, Junior?' And Pops said, 'What you call me, boy?' and starts getting up to get him. 'I'm gonna tear him up!' "Prince broke out running in his pumps."

If it's true, that is some hilarious shit. Pops giving Prince a beat-down, Joe Pesci style.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Some stories should be true even if they aren't, just for the humour of it all.

I think this could be true, just not from the "serious" perspective it's made out to be. I think it was all in jest, with Prince "running away" in mock terror.

I mean, if it were really the case, Pops AND Mavis prolly wouldn't have gone thru with the special. Besides, why would Mavis lie?

I think you're probably right. Although it'd be funnier if Pops Staples were really pissed and gonna give our man a genuine, old-school Mississippi beat-down. lol

BULLSHIT :locket:

It's still open because it's a true (and hilarious) story about Prince. You idiot larvae prolly ain't even aware who Pops or Mavis Staples are!

If it's not a picture thread or a "discussion" that can be had in emoticons alone, it would behoove you keep it to yourself.

Pop Staples is an old man in his 80's, he and Prince have known and loved each other for many years there was no threat of violence there, show some respect for your elders.
