UPDATE!!
I went back to FYE more than month after getting my first albums. The two I wanted to get were still there. Other than the two, the selection was pretty poor. Others included Prince, The B-sides (a couple of diff. ones), 94 East featuring Prince (box set), Musicology & 3121 (own both) and SST which was from Hurricane Katrina... And the prices were really good for the two I got, I was surprised. So here it is: I got Around the World in a Day (USED for $7.99) Come for $9.99 I checked 4 DVD's as well. Purple Rain for $15.99 (but not special edition), Live at the Aladdin and Rave Un2 the Year 2000 ($15.99). I was kinda looking at that too... but I wasn't completely sure. Maybe another time. Still, though, I can't wait to listen to my new albums. I'll let you know how it all goes. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I think you'll like Condition of the Heart . I would grab the B-sides. Lots of must haves on there. And I'd tell you to get Prince, but I know you are not interested in the early stuff right now 94 East probably not necessary for you until you buy all of his albums- that's really just him as a session player in the 70's. as for the dvd's- wait till u find the special edition of Purple Rain. awww... I love you guys...
you're like my 1000 best friends Tomorrow, I'll definitely give them a listen. But then again, I might want to check into ATWIAD first (perhaps tonite) cuz Ive listened to PR recently... and it'd be neat to see the amount of difference between the two. I've got a car ride with my family tomorrow, so I'll check into Come & TGE going there and coming back. I'm just glad they still had them... and I got them both for $20... sure, I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere... but i could care less right now. I've got 6 albums to my name! : had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I felt like I was underlining/highlighting everything in book. I've got 2 chapters left to read thru/highlight, so I'm taking a break. Everyone sure likes Parade, haha. Well, if I happen to find it when I can't find anything else on my list, that's what I'll do. Of course that'll mean getting Under the Cherry Moon... but w/e. In my mind, Prince's career started with "1999"... and after Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, he disappeared for a while, releasing albums only thru his website, which leaves me with Musicology, his first big release in a long time. Of course I know there's more to the story than that... but his earliest material [For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy], I'll most likely never get. His years as hold the most interest for me since he went thru so many changes. I feel I need to get a lot of the music from that time so I'll have more of an idea of what he was going thru. And since I'm an 80's buff, I gotta have 1999, ATWIAD & SOTT in my collection. haha YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING NOT HAVING DIRTY MIND AND CONTROVERSY! THEY ARE EXACTLY WHAT "PRINCE" STANDS FOR IN HIS BEGINNING. DIRTY, CONTROVERSIAL, AND SENSUAL! NOT TO MENTION, A ROYAL "PAIN" IN A PARENTS ASS If I could be muse 2 the Pharoah......

[Edited 5/4/07 20:19pm] I watched the movie last night 4 the first time. I loved it Yes "Under The Cherry Moon" is an essential. Just don't watch Graffiti Bridge, that might end your fandom "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Whoever it was that mentioned Dirty Mind hit it right on the nose, Get that one for sure. It's no.6 on my all time Prince album list. A must have. Also, don't sleep on Controversy, Prince, ATWIAD, 1999, or Sign 'O' the Times. These are definitely not only the best albums in Prince's early years but best of all time. Peace and be wild!

Aww... thanx guys. Since it was used, I wanted to check out ATWIAD first to see if it was in mint condition. The answer is yes. At first you might be caught off guard by the sound of 'Around The World In A Day", but I think you will find it to be a very unique album. It's my favorite Prince album
I listened to the album around 11:30 or so last night in my headphones. My mind was clear and completely open for it. I'll give a more detailed review later cuz I gotta run soon (and listen to Come, heh). But I'll give you what I got out the album. It is very unique, and it was just about what I expected it to me. It was NOTHING like Purple Rain... but some of the tracks kinda remind me of Darling Nikki (with Prince high on his sex-drive )- Tambourine & Temptation were the two. There wasn't a bad track in the bunch. I felt like after Raspberry Beret ended that this would just be an OK album, with nothing extraordinary about it. It got better as time went on. I mean, I liked the first few tracks. Condition of the Heart is definitely worth a few more listens... it caught me offguard cuz I wasn't sure if there'd be any vocals, but it sounds so emotional... I'm intrigued by it. My hands down FAVORITE though, was Pop Life. I just love its message and the way he did it... it sounds like one of the tracks where he's like "this is how I live and I want ya'll to do the same, live life to its fullest"... The Ladder was like Purple Rain revisited, definitely worth a few more listens. I kinda lost what I thought about it when Temptation came out. It was like a latter portion of Darling Nikki where Prince is high on himself & his ego. A guitar-heavy track, but I liked it. The ending totally caught me offguard. You think its over... think again, I was towards the end... definitely his spontaneoity at its best during that time. My first grade is a B/B+. I'll give you guys more details later. But I'll be more likely to post my review of Come b4 that. Wish me luck guys. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Dreamy, I don't know if you may have heard it somewhere else but you need to try and find "She's Always In My Hair", which was originally the b-side to the "Raspberry Beret" single. I love ATWIAD but this one b-side practically kills the whole album on it's own, it's just an incredible, incredible track. |

Yeah, save up and make your next purchase The Hits & B sides three disc set. You'll get a really good overview of the earlier material your not sure about getting, you won't double up on TGE, 3121 or Musicology and you'll get an extra disc of most of the essential b sides that are difficult to get anywhere else. It's expensive but it's a really good place to start http://www.amazon.com/Hit...655&sr=1-1

I'm going to copy/paste my entries from my blog as the night goes on, but I listened to "Come". Here's the basic idea I got from it.
Not dark AT ALL or angry like I thought it'd be. I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised, (I can just hear the voices say "I told you") But I did get the air of sadness in three tracks, Papa, Dark & Solo. This was my first listen, so I'm sure I'll make more sense of it later on... After the lengthy title track, I kinda got lost in it and it was hard to find my way back out. The tracks started blending together for me, so I got a little bored after a while. But I did understand Prince's state of mind while listening to it. How he just wants to cut loose and be what he wants to be. Papa broke that theme with a hint of sadness... but things bounced back a little. I remember Race sounding... better? I dunno... I kinda got a little lost at that point. Dark/Solo was an interesting combo with a common thread between the two... the car stereo was blasting at this point that I couldn't hear Solo... but its intriguing... cuz it's unlike anything else on the album. Come & Letitgo were my two favorite tracks that I was the most impressed with. As for Orgasm... I know what Prince was going for cuz it ties up with Come (the song) is all about... but c'mon man, you can barely call that a song. Then again, its the shredded remains of the song "Poem" that was slated for this album. Overall, I give it a B-, the two tracks I mentioned saved it... and there's the curiosity about Dark & Solo too. You can read my full reviews of both ATWIAD and Come in this new thread: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/226438?pg=1 And for the record, I have "She's always in my hair" among other tracks someone uploaded for me (thanx again ), I just haven't listened to it yet. But I will. [Edited 5/5/07 18:26pm] had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
