There is happy, upbeat, funky danceable stuff on 'Come', the title track especially. Letitgo is a smooth pop rnb groove, not dark at all, and Space is one of my all time favorite Prince songs, it's chilled out and slightly ambient but the groove is tight as f**k. I agree. I don't find Come to be dark at all. But I see where some may get that impression and I think that it is the cover art. When I bought the album, I thought it was going to be a dark and angry album because of the cover, but that was not the case. I also agree about the Space maxi single. It is probably my favorite maxi single. The remixes are excellent. I guess I should clarify myself since I started the "dark" comment. It's not that I feel it's a "very dark" album overall, but it can be considered dark compared to TGE which is what dreamypop was trying to compare it to. Since I know there's a lot she hasn't heard yet, and Gold is a very big thing for her, I think Come just might sound "dark" to her. Or at least some of it. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Jt got me started on the comparison between the two cuz the songs were written during the same period. Supposedly, Come is edgier. I've heard a few of the tracks already (with TGE fresh in my mind) and they had an interesting feel to them. It was something new and different. Too bad HQ's videos aren't back up, otherwise I would have gone to watch "The Beautiful Experience" again. I haven't done anything major regarding Prince lately just cuz I don't want him to distract me with finals coming up. And yeah, I've got the feeling that some of the tracks will have a dark edge to them... but I say bring it on, cuz it'll be a side of Prince I haven't seen before. And I'm all for learning more about the diff. sides of his personality. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Its so funny- my first 2 semesters I was a "freshmore" like in btw freshman and sophomore year, this semester I'm a sophomore and this summer I'll be a junior! lol- I'm double majoring to get the most out of my scholarship. So i'll be a junior for a while. as for music... I can't really celebrate the end of the semester b/c I have one more assignment 2 do as part of my final exam and e-mail it by 2morrow @ 5. after that- I can relax until my summer classes begin. Heh, I think this is the first time I've talked to another college student on here. I don't take classes during the summer, cuz I don't need to. I'm managing my classes pretty well and getting my requirements done. I haven't dropped a class yet, despite the difficulty of the material. But it can't be helped. Marine biology is my major so I had to suffer thru Calculus and Organic Chemistry (the lab nearly killed me, haha)... and I aced them both. Go figure! I'm working on a paper now and we have to post it online on a "WebBoard". I want to post it cuz I'm pretty much done, but I want it to be perfect... and that means more of a chance at straight A's. I hate how everything always seems to come down to the wire for me, I don't know what I'll get until I take the finals and the grade's posted on the school site. Back to Prince, though, I'll definitely get an album or two to celebrate getting thru the semester... I deserve it, haha, and I've pretty much gotten thru the 4 albums I own. But good news is that I love them all, I just find difficulty picking them up. the only reason i'm taking summer courses is 2 get rid of requirements and graduate faster and to make up for credits i didn't take this semester so I don't lose my scholarship. but right now I'm working on my last essay and making it right. its last minute partly b/c of procrastination and b/c he gave us the option to do the take home essay just a few days ago really. afterwards, i might buy a book for my WW II research to celebrate and catch up w/ some research i've been doing in the 2-3 weeks i have free time. Interesting... Yeah, my paper is actually a "take-home" assignment. It's basically a revision of a paper I did earlier in the course, so I'm only given 48 hours to do it. It's finished, but I need to go over it to make sure it runs smoothly. It could very well give me an A in the course... haha, Prince is distracting me from looking at it! I've been on here, replying to posts and such for hours... I'd better get back to that. And I can't wait to get Come. I'll all excited about it now (or maybe its the caffeine...) had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Is the Space maxi single available now? I didn't even know last night was the ten year anniversary of Prince Night. I'm sure glad I went! I've been going off and on since 1997.

I've got a feeling that I will when I get it. Ha, I think I knew why I got the impression that it was supposed to be "dark". I think I heard there was some cursing (actually after reading up on a lot of the lyrics, make that "a lot" of cursing) and sexual references. Someone on HQ commented that I might have a problem with the album becuz I apparently seemed uneasy about Prince's, haha, "naughty habits" with the cursing and sexual lyrics and stuff... no wait, I think they said the last track might give me a heart attack. whatever. I've dealt with "Darling Nikki" and Endorphinmachine pretty well... so that really shouldn't be any problem at all. It'll be new and different, but right now, I doubt there's anything Prince can dish out anymore that I can't handle. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Nikki and Endorphinmachine are very different than anything on Come. The lyrics are a good cue- off the top of my head, I don't think there is another P album with more references to death and guns. Throw in the album cover, a song titled Dark, tracks about child abuse, voyeurism, Solo- which imo is the eeriest piece of P music I've ever heard, (I can barely listen to that track although I love the album), and top it off with someone else's Orgasm and I'd say again- this can be seen as a dark album. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Yeah, based on the content, that's where I got the idea from. You definitely hit the nail on the head. Prince usually likes to keep his material on a brighter, more positive note since "there's enough trouble in the world" and music shouldn't bring you down... that sort of thing. At the time, I think he felt he needed to go for a different angle because of the conflicts going on with WB and within himself (with his obsession with recording and such). had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. And I don't think he was trying to bring anybody down, but that's just where he was at the time musically and believe he wanted to go out with a bang so to speak (since Prince was dead ). I see it as sort of like The Black Album version 2. (although TBA isn't dark at all) Some would say he was simply trying to keep up with other things coming out at that time. And of course, Come, Space and Let It Go are actually upbeat songs so it's not completely dark by any means. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

It sure is interesting hearing different angles of it. Yeah, the whole thing about Prince being dead... yeah Prince, you're dead and you rose like phoenix from the dead once the 21st century began. Of what I've heard, it is pretty techno, but it's cool. A new change of pace. I've felt a little out of sorts lately cuz I've been trying to keep Prince out of my mind so he won't distract me from my studies... and I don't feel like picking up my albums (although I've listening 3121 in reverse right now). Either way, Come will be a new side of Prince, a edgy/experimental side of him that I don't know, but would like to. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Therein lies the problem, I have difficulty to pick them up anymore cuz I'm not so much in the mood. But I'm not picking up TGE or PR cuz I get such a rush from those. I won't be able to get the full idea of the album in reverse order, cuz I'm listening to a few of the tracks at a time. When I head out for dinner, I'll play the last 4 tracks... so when I go and return, I'll post a new thread about it. I had a feeling there'd be a little discrepancy cuz Prince's use of "backwards tape" was infamous in the 80's. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Papa is also personal, kind of depressing, but he ends the song with a blistering riff that points to hope and positivity in the world, "and theres always the rainbow, at the end of every rain".. Come, Space and Let It Go are positives, but because of their minimalistic grooves, might be portrayed as "dark", but I think minimalistic, gothic, techo/trancy would be good descriptions of it. Come and Chaos and Disorder are the 2 last great Prince albums in my opinion. I think he´s been trying to catch up since.I also think its the last album where Prince had a top 40 hit (Let it go), correct me if Im wrong..
