I guess I should clarify myself since I started the "dark" comment. It's not that I feel it's a "very dark" album overall, but it can be considered dark compared to TGE which is what dreamypop was trying to compare it to. Since I know there's a lot she hasn't heard yet, and Gold is a very big thing for her, I think Come just might sound "dark" to her. Or at least some of it.

Back to Prince, though, I'll definitely get an album or two to celebrate getting thru the semester... I deserve it, haha, and I've pretty much gotten thru the 4 albums I own. But good news is that I love them all, I just find difficulty picking them up.

the only reason i'm taking summer courses is 2 get rid of requirements and graduate faster and to make up for credits i didn't take this semester so I don't lose my scholarship.
but right now I'm working on my last essay and making it right. its last minute partly b/c of procrastination and b/c he gave us the option to do the take home essay just a few days ago really. afterwards, i might buy a book for my WW II research to celebrate and catch up w/ some research i've been doing in the 2-3 weeks i have free time.

Yeah, my paper is actually a "take-home" assignment. It's basically a revision of a paper I did earlier in the course, so I'm only given 48 hours to do it.
It's finished, but I need to go over it to make sure it runs smoothly. It could very well give me an A in the course... haha, Prince is distracting me from looking at it! I've been on here, replying to posts and such for hours...

I'd better get back to that.

And I can't wait to get Come. I'll all excited about it now (or maybe its the caffeine...)

Ha, I think I knew why I got the impression that it was supposed to be "dark".
I think I heard there was some cursing (actually after reading up on a lot of the lyrics, make that "a lot" of cursing) and sexual references.

Someone on HQ commented that I might have a problem with the album becuz I apparently seemed uneasy about Prince's, haha, "naughty habits" with the cursing and sexual lyrics and stuff... no wait, I think they said the last track might give me a heart attack.

whatever. I've dealt with "Darling Nikki" and Endorphinmachine pretty well... so that really shouldn't be any problem at all. It'll be new and different, but right now, I doubt there's anything Prince can dish out anymore that I can't handle.

again, I have to say this album can def. be seen as dark. Nikki and Endorphinmachine are very different than anything on Come. The lyrics are a good cue- off the top of my head, I don't think there is another P album with more references to death and guns. Throw in the album cover, a song titled Dark, tracks about child abuse, voyeurism, Solo- which imo is the eeriest piece of P music I've ever heard, (I can barely listen to that track although I love the album), and top it off with someone else's Orgasm and I'd say again- this can be seen as a dark album.

Prince usually likes to keep his material on a brighter, more positive note since "there's enough trouble in the world" and music shouldn't bring you down... that sort of thing. At the time, I think he felt he needed to go for a different angle because of the conflicts going on with WB and within himself (with his obsession with recording and such).

also, there's a bit of "techno" on there which to me as a genre always feels somewhat dark- although those who like it might disagree. And I don't think he was trying to bring anybody down, but that's just where he was at the time musically and believe he wanted to go out with a bang so to speak (since Prince was dead ). I see it as sort of like The Black Album version 2. (although TBA isn't dark at all) Some would say he was simply trying to keep up with other things coming out at that time. And of course, Come, Space and Let It Go are actually upbeat songs so it's not completely dark by any means.
