Oh boy, I'll be in trouble when I get it, lol

TGE is extremely addictive. Once I play it once, I have to keep coming back to it. I feel like I'm the way Prince was during that period of his life. He had to keep writing and recording in order to get his next "destination" faster. When I listen to it, I can't stop cuz I feel like I want to get somewhere, discover an hidden truth...

Maybe Prince engraved that into the album without realizing, it was just the attitude he had during the time of its creation.

In Pheromone, he is saying "Pheromone make a nigga go crazy, fuckin' around make a nigga wanna die" in the background. This song is one of my favorite songs from my favorite album of the 90s headbang music

Well good luck with that.
I didn't get a scholarship for the school I go to now. But I turned down a $10,000 scholarship to another school... but that would only make the tuition the same as the school I currently go to.
Strange though, cuz my A-2-B ratio during high school was 70/30... and after three semesters, I've only gotten 3 B's and the rest of my grades have been A's.

Anyway, I limit listens to TGE cuz of its addictive nature. How many A's I get lays in the hands of 2 exams, an oral presentation and one final paper...
But then again, thanx to Prince, I might still have a chance at straight A's... I'll see what happens.

I think the Come album gets a bad rap, like so many of P's post-80's albums. There are some great, fun tracks on this album that I love to sing and dance to.

I love the many versions of the title track that are out there. I really dig the version on The Beautiful Dance Experience.

Other gems on that album:

Pheromone - I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
Letitgo
Space
Dark (I like both versions)

Come thumbs up!

That was the reason why I wasn't thinking of getting it. Plus, I saw it 4 $8.99 and I don't think it was used either... so that was practically screaming "this album sucks and we want to get rid of it"...

That's what I think FYE thinks of it... I want to get "Come" as soon as I get back there (hopefully it'll still be there when I get home from college next week).

I love this album, particularly side one. Come, Space, Pheromone.... biggrin

Judging from posts in the recent "which albums do u listen to most?" thread, I'd say it's not as underrated as I thought.

Maybe it's underrated cuz only "die-hard fans" can appreciate it.

I dunno. I don't own it, but based on the songs I've heard from it... it sounds like it has its own special quality to it.

Would you say that Come is the polar opposite of TGE or are they similar... or a little of both?

I've heard all kinds of things about the two based on the fact that the music was written during the same time period (93-94).

not polar opposites but very different overall. I guess a little of both biggrin
Come is more of a "dark" album, as evidenced by the album covers alone. Come is also funkier...even a bit "techno"

Yeah, a month ago, before I dove into Prince's music, I saw Come as a seemingly dark album... actually, I thought that whole period was a very dark time in his life with all of the stuff going on with his record label and such... I certainly didn't think he was happy.
TGE kinda proved me wrong, though. It glows with a certain light that only says to me that Prince wasn't completely unhappy, he was just trying to find himself.

But I think Come, based on what I've heard, will embody and reflect his inner anger and frustration... both with WB and the struggle within himself.
Ugh... just thinking that depresses me, that was the reason why I didn't want to get it in the first place because I didn't want to hear Prince unhappy.

But I don't think the album will be completely angry and unhappy... its supposed to be Prince being very raw and experimental, which overall is a side of him I haven't really seen yet, but would like to get to know.

wow... I have Bright Futures, which pays 4 college if u stay in Florida- which i was gonna do neways. I got ONE "C" and my GPA dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.6... but oddly enough I still made the Dean's List. I'm still gonna wait 2 buy any American CDs cause I'm trying to save to buy imported stuff. ugh.

that's cool.

Every semester, I've made the Dean's List at college.
I don't consider myself a straight A student. It's only happened for me the one time.
I know I have the potential to be one. My dad certainly thinks that I do... but he's always pushing me to be the best. I just don't have the complete willpower to really apply myself and do it all the time. The stress would just kill me.

I've been listening to "The Very Best of...", setting my CD player at random... I can't get myself to pick up even 3121 or Musicology, which I consider "playing it safe" for me since they're not addictive.
rolleyes I guess I know why now, no wonder I can't pick them up.
PR & TGE are addictive, so I don't feel like taking a chance with either of them. So I'm pretty much stuck with randomness and music videos on one site until the semester's over. Luckily, Prince has been cooperating.

well I've only been in college 4 two semesters and I don't think there's a Deans list for the summer semesters. But I made it into my first offical semester. Its so funny- my first 2 semesters I was a "freshmore" like in btw freshman and sophomore year, this semester I'm a sophomore and this summer I'll be a junior! lol- I'm double majoring to get the most out of my scholarship. So i'll be a junior for a while.

as for music... I can't really celebrate the end of the semester b/c I have one more assignment 2 do as part of my final exam and e-mail it by 2morrow @ 5. after that- I can relax until my summer classes begin.

Heh, I think this is the first time I've talked to another college student on here. I don't take classes during the summer, cuz I don't need to. I'm managing my classes pretty well and getting my requirements done. I haven't dropped a class yet, despite the difficulty of the material. But it can't be helped. Marine biology is my major so I had to suffer thru Calculus and Organic Chemistry (the lab nearly killed me, haha)... and I aced them both. Go figure!

I'm working on a paper now and we have to post it online on a "WebBoard". I want to post it cuz I'm pretty much done, but I want it to be perfect... and that means more of a chance at straight A's. I hate how everything always seems to come down to the wire for me, I don't know what I'll get until I take the finals and the grade's posted on the school site.

Back to Prince, though, I'll definitely get an album or two to celebrate getting thru the semester... I deserve it, haha, and I've pretty much gotten thru the 4 albums I own. But good news is that I love them all, I just find difficulty picking them up. lol

It's not dark and angry in my opinion, certainly not as much as 'The Black Album' for one example.

There is happy, upbeat, funky danceable stuff on 'Come', the title track especially. Letitgo is a smooth pop rnb groove, not dark at all, and Space is one of my all time favorite Prince songs, it's chilled out and slightly ambient but the groove is tight as f**k.

The "Space" maxi-single is amazing too, I love the art on it and it's my favorite Prince single because the remixes on there are incredible. The Acoustic Mix is incredible, and the universal love mix is amazing, it's re-interpreted by Prince with different lyrics and musical sections, it's just sick.

Come is an incredible album. I really do play it a lot, it's up there with TGE as my most played 90's album. Certain tracks from Graffiti Bridge would be by most played 90's tracks, although I see Graffiti Bridge as an 80's album as it sounds closer to the 80's material than it does to P's 90's approach starting with the D&P album.

Well, it certainly is nice to hear such a different review of "Come". I had no idea.
When I was watching "The Beautiful Experience", I had in mind that the tracks were written at the same time as the TGE tracks I know & love. That helped me enjoy the material because I was familiar with the "feel" of it.
I don't know why. I just got the vibe that "Come" was supposed to be pretty dark. I probably had heard someone on here note it, but that was over a month ago. I can't be expected to remember where I heard it.
Whenever I listen to TGE, I get a different feel for it and get a new interpretation of it. When I first listened to it, I couldn't think of it as a Prince album... simply couldn't. The sound was so completely different, unlike anything I've heard before. I saw it as Prince goes thru a journey, taking his listener (moi) along 4 the ride and by the time he reaches "Gold", he's found enlightenment. Simply brilliant. It's such a cut above the rest that its hard to think of it as a Prince album because it feels so much better than anything else he's done.

I wonder what kind of vibe I'll get from Come. Will it be similar to TGE? Or will it be completely different?
Haha... I didn't get this kind of thrill when I was thinking about purchasing my first Prince albums... I mean I was excited about the thought of owning his material, but not about the albums in particular.
Ever since seeing "The Beautiful Experience", I've thought a lot about Come. I saw it at FYE for such a good price... I just gotta wait a week or so to go the mall. We're talking about a month or two later, so hopefully its still there. But I get the feeling it will be. The fact it was only $8.99 told me that FYE wanted badly to get rid of it... they probably didn't think it was very good.
I can't wait until the day comes when I do get it, though. Then I find out which of my theories are right... maybe they'll all right.
Sorry, I'm a little hopped-up on caffeine right now. lol

I agree. I don't find Come to be dark at all. But I see where some may get that impression and I think that it is the cover art. When I bought the album, I thought it was going to be a dark and angry album because of the cover, but that was not the case.

I also agree about the Space maxi single. It is probably my favorite maxi single. The remixes are excellent.
