Thriller vs Purple Rain

I personally have never heard the whole Thriller album. The only song I heard was Thriller and Billie Jean. I have listend to the whole Purple Rain cd. I just want to know what your vote was. Mine would be Purple Rain...I have to give Thriller a listen.

You've never heard the whole of Thriller? Damn. You've never heard Beat It? or Human Nature? You're missing out.

Both albums are absolutely classic but Purple Rain edges it for me, "Computer Blue" is what tips the balance. biggrin

Definately Purple Rain! I think Off the Wall holds a better challenge against 1999 btw.

I have heard neither one of these albums,
so my answer is Purple Rain.

I'd pick PR. Thriller is great, but it has a few clunkers, like Thriller and The Girl is Mine. And I don't think Beat It has aged very well.

Ok over the years I really don't like M. Jackson, the way he use the media to over hype himself, plus all the weird stuff he has done. But both albums are great. The best albums of the 80's. Both maybe in the top 5 albums of all time. Thats a tough one to answer. I know that over the years I've listen to Purple Rain more, so for that I say purple rain.

I can't decide. Both albums are great and define what these young cats today have been UNABLE to do for the past twenty years.

Why would you compare Thriller with Purple Rain, if you have never heard the whole of Thriller before. Of course you are going to prefer Purple Rain..

I prefer Thriller myself, although my favourite MJ album is "Off The Wall", but Thriller defines an era that was unforgettable imo. It was definetly the peak of MJ's career.

I'm comparing them because their both big hit albums.

It still doesn't make sense, since you've admitted that you have heard only 2 songs from one, whereas the other you have listen to the whole album. Your on a Prince Forum so the responses are obviously going to be one-sided.

I love both albums but my vote goes for Purple Rain. I listened to it more and it grabs me a little more than Thriller but Thriller still kicks my ass. Props to Prince and Michael Jackson for making these incredible albums that still stand the test of time.

Wow! Thats exactly how I would've rated those classics! PR has two clunkers BIAS and IWD4U but I still would have to, as an original Prince fan, would have to at least rate PR a TIE to the greatest album of all time! (We are all biased though)! But I can remember back in the day during Thrillers dominance wondering, where the hell was Prince and what the hell was he doing?..It was as if he was AWOL! Then in May '84 When Doves Cry dropped, with the subsequent movie, and my prayers were answered!

Both classic albums from the '80's and two of the greatest albums of all time!! Of course, I'm partial 2 Purple Rain, but I love Thriller as well!

If there was never a movie at that time I think I'd have picked Thriller back then. But because I saw the movie then got the soundtrack I think I would have loved it if he'd said knick knack patty wack on the whole album.

Off the Wall was my album but IMO it doesn't beat 1999.

I can't really say because i've only heard a couple songs off thriller but i'm just gonna go ahead and say purple rain!

It's obvious that almost everyone's going to say purple rain, though! i mean, this is a prince fan site! It's like asking a black guy if they like white people or black people.

Purple Rain

Although, I do recall having many copies of Thriller in the house. My brothers and I each had a vinyl and a cassette.

For Purple Rain, I had all the 45s, 12", and a cassette plus the lp.
