Yeah... poke (this is Prince). you can place some of the blame on Prince, though. It's not entirely my fault that I write so much... he just makes it impossible for me to stop. I have a few choice words for him on that, but I don't even say them out loud.

I don't know what he was trying to do to me this morning, though. I had "The Dance" playing in my head and almost felt like he was making me feel guilty for the way I spoke of his efforts on 3121 yesterday. But what can u do?

I guess I haven't been "feeling" him lately because my mind's on other things. The semester here ends next Wednesday, so until then, my mind's gonna be a little warped, I guess you could say.
It's strange, though. I feel like I force myself to listen to 3121 sometimes... sometimes it works 4 me, sometimes it does.

Last night, my mind was in another place, so I had no preconceived judgements in my mind when I started playing it. When my mind is clear, it's easier to get a feel for what he's trying to get across.

As for the central message of 3121, I'm still not sure, but it feels like he's experimenting with diff. genres to touch on diff. parts of himself. shrug I dunno.
All I know is that he wrote this album with something particular in mind, a certain message to get across (like he always does), so I gotta figure out what that it is. As much as I say "I wish he had done this there, etc.", he made it the way it is for a reason. And one of these days, I hope to figure that out.

A lot of people here probably think I'm reaching 2 deep, that's fine. But I would falloff if Prince himself said I'm making way too much of this. Which I kinda feel like I am... but I can't help it. I have a belief he thinks differently than other artists and therefore, his albums should have a deep, underlying message all the same that each of his songs touch on so many diff. areas.

shrug coolness.

I thought I've been going insane for the past day or so...
I just hate speaking badly of Prince, that's all. It drives me nuts cuz I respect him so much.

Musicology is definitely my favorite of the two. Maybe I just favor real instruments over computers and studio compiliations.
I feel like it's more of what Prince stands for, raw but real music.
And I just feel like it has so much personality, it's almost contagious, haha.
Then why is it so hard to me to get motivated to pick it up?
... that's still a mystery to me.

Imago

Rainbow Children - The best of the albums (my least favorite cause it demands too much from the ear. lol )

Musicolgoy is a tighter, better album than 3121, so it comes in second. I don't listen to it much though.

3121 is pure pop filler. I like it the most of the three though. lol

Call My Name is an interesting specimen... some days I feel it and others I don't. The last time I listened to it, I did feel it.

Reflection is definitely one of his best.

Musicology is full of personality. A lot of people are hard on "Life O' The Party". There's a decision thread on Housequake about the album and everyone seems to dislike the song. I see it thru Prince's eyes as his way of saying he's the type of person that just likes to party... full of personality.

A Million Days is my favorite on the album. I compared it to TB1's a few times based on the last minute. That was full of heart. The first few times, though, I didn't get why he wrote it the way he did. It didn't follow the typical "verse-chorus-verse-chorus" pattern I'm used to... but nothing he does is really by the book. I admire the way he wrote it cuz it's so different and it works.

Last night my boyfriend was loading up his ipod with my prince music, and he played "Get on the Boat" and I was like, wait, is that on 3121? I swear that song has a way more old skool feel to it... I thought the computer had to have made a mistake and that I was from an earlier album... But sure enough... Check it out again y'all and let me know if I'm losing it... It was a long weekend in Vegas!!! cool

funny, I was going to bring up, but I decided not to just cuz I already said enough... I still like it, though. One of my favorites... it's interesting how he combined the old-school sound with a story that's pretty current.

pray thank you.

Haha, I still consider myself a newbie, but maybe I can move up in the ranks when I get more albums in a couple of weeks. Then I could contribute to more album discussion... I definitely enjoy voicing my opinions and finding people that agree. Isn't it great how Prince brings us all together like this? cool

The Rainbow Children is the last time we see Prince in his greatness.
Musicology and 3121 are mediocre in comparison and quite frankly on there on merits, are average records.

The Rainbow Children is classic prince.

Rainbow children for me. When I first heard it, I thought "WTF?" like most people, but now despite a couple of filler/clunker tracks, I love it. Playing it to death at the moment

After that, 3121

then Musicology, which I dont really like.

u?

I agree with the first post!

TRC for me is in my Prince top 3 best albums, and might even be no. 1 some days. Incredible music, production, sequencing and P on absolute top form - I can take the lyrics, and as a non-believer, find them both interesting and amusing.

'3121' is very good. It's generally very well-crafted than truly inspiring, but for truly impressive tracks like '3121', 'The Word', 'The Dance' and 'Fury', it is the best P 'pop' album since 'Emancipation' imo.

'Musicology' I disliked mostly at first, and it soon went into the rack gathering dust - Well-crafted but Prince-by-numbers. I've since returned to it, and found it a little better than I first thought, with 'Reflection' and'WDYWMTDG' (almost worthy of the P of 'Dorothy Parker', which it resembles imo) being stand-outs if no classics.

I agree on 3121, I call it well-crafted... but it's at the bottom of my ranks, so that's not saying much. And as far as impressive tracks go, I agree with 3/4 (Fury, not so much, although I do like it).
Musicology I couldn't get into at first, but it has a bunch of great tracks. After giving it a chance, I really got to like it. It's just hard to get back cuz it doesn't exactly pull one way or the other.
