Batman soundtrack forgotten album?

It's funny, that is the one cd P fans don't really talk about, at least in my experience. On a scale of Prince albums, 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, where would you place it? Do you think it holds a candle to Purple Rain and how did P get involved in the project?

Snap

personally, after the creativity of everything up to that point, i think it was a distraction to have been given this project to work on...

sorry to say it, Prince, but this is one "album" that's not on my list.

Batdance was okay... kinda repetitive.

Partyman, I guess is okay... but the video throws me for a loop. Prince completely becomes "The Joker" in the video... disbelief I'm sorry, I just can't buy into it.

Although I did watch thru the movie, after supposedly sleeping thru it, the first time (when I didn't know who Prince was, let alone that he did the music for it)
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Forgotten by whom?
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It must be something about the time in which it was made and all of the planets aligning, but when I found out that Prince was doing the Batman soundtrack, I LOST MY MIND!!!

Prince was my favorite artist already and Batman was my favorite comic book hero and I did not see how the two fit together but I was ditching high school the day that came out to buy that soundtrack on cassette a few weeks before the movie premiered. And driving around in my friend's car (he already had his license...hee hee...to listen to that? GOOD TIMES!)

I might be delusional, but for the time in which it was released, it might be the most commercially viable Prince has ever been since Purple Rain. (Please note that I'm not trying to argue that commercial viability makes the product better.)

In terms of Prince's synth-heavy stuff, the Batman soundtrack is STILL my favorite. "The Future" and (even more so) "Electric Chair" show up on just about any favorites list for me. I think the Batman soundtrack, while maybe not one of P's most vital works, is PURE LATE 80s SYNTH POP HEAVEN! I can't live without hearing it every so often!

Is it just me or is it really hard to find this album in stores. Can someone give me a track listing for it?

1st P album i ever heard and always liked it. weirdly I had all but forgotten about it until recently. I liked the film a lot too, and the way P adopted some of the character roles in his songs (well, Vicki Waiting at least, which may be my fave off the record), rather than it just being a miscellaneous throwing together of tracks.

The Future and Electric Chair kick ass also, and are still quite topical, if a man CAN be considered guilty for what goes into his Google Search History... (ok, ditch the Orwell...).

My Amazon Rating: batman batman batman batman batman

From Wikipedia: "In the 2004 zombie-themed comedy Shaun of the Dead, the album is one of a group that is used as projectile weaponry against advancing zombies. Two other Prince albums, Purple Rain and Sign 'O' the Times, are spared, however." Tee hee!

Tracklist:

1. The Future. 2. Electric Chair. 3. The Arms of Orion. 4. Partyman. 5. Vicki Waiting. 6. Trust. 7. Lemon Crush. 8. Scandalous. 9. Batdance.

I love Mrsquirrel's point about the way Prince took on the personas of the different characters in the film when he did the soundtrack. Actually, "Vicki Waiting" is not the only song written from a character's point of view. "Partyman" represents the Joker and if I'm not mistaken, "The Future" is Batman's perspective (or is it "Electric Chair"? I can't remember!)

Reading the accompanying lyrics, all the songs are supposed to be from the viewpoint of characters from the film!
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

i agree with whomever asked, "forgotten by whom?" this was a platinum album (maybe double, at the time) with two hit singles in Batdance and Partyman. neither of which i particular care for per se. i like the "change" in Batdance and like the second half of it better. but the joints for me are Vicki Waiting (classic), and Electric Chair (it STILL rocks). I also like Lemon Crush, The Future, and it's hard to not listen to Scandalous. So i clearly enjoy the album 7.5 out of 10 for me. Nothing on it is what i'd call "unlistenable."

i thought i remember hearing somewhere that Jack Nicholson might've suggested Prince to do the soundtrack. he's a fan.

I love this soundtrack!lol Batdance was awesome with all of the different change ups. Plus, I love his guitar solo in that song. Scandalous was and still is off the hook. The Arms of Orion was good along with the rest.

Minus Arms of Orion,it's a definite 10 4 me! I have no idea how Prince got involved in the project, but I'm glad he did! I love these songs as much as I love the songs on Purple Rain.

The Future
Electric Chair
Vicki Waiting

These three are standouts. Real good songs.

Another highlight is the killer guitar solo in Batdance and the funky part afterwards.

Lemon Crush would be amazing if were remixed by Daft Punk

Partyman and Scandalous are okay.

Arms of Orion and Trust are horrible

I just listened to this album about 6 times while painting my daughters room purple (and pink). Trust became the track I'd look forward to the most possibly cos it has a good beat to paint to. It had previously been my least favourite on the album. Funny how times change. I'm looking forward to hearing it in the movie now too. I got a bit fed up of the first four notes on the Future but the Arms of Orion never really bothered me. And the extended version of Partyman is far superior IMO.
I had a nice experience painting her first baby room too. It wasn't until then that I really discovered The Rainbow Children. I wonder how she turned out to be a 2 year old Prince fan?
I think my new favourite way to experience Prince music is while painting. I did take a break from painting the living room during the Superbowl halftime show however.

I love this album, and Partyman is one of my favorite Prince videos. The movie itself though was marketed to death, so I got burned out on it real quick, Years later though I fell back in love with the album.

I love this album, just recently bought it again on CD as only owned on vinyl.
Electric Chair is one of my top favorite Prince songs of all time. Overall, I'd put this around #11 on my list of his 80's material or an 8 overall. Only song I could live without is "Arms of Orion".
Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Lazy lyrics however...

"So I can't go...like a jerk" doesn't even make sense in the context of the song.

I love the soundtrack.. I bought it last week and I'm waiting for it and 1999 to come in the mail. I think Partyman is a great song- and the video was hilarious! Scandalous is kick-ass IMO, and Electric Chair is great. Granted, its not platinum-worthy, but its a good album nonetheless.

PLEASE take the time out to hear "Batman and Robin" off of Snoop Dogg's "Paid Tha Cost To Be Tha Bo$$", it'll hopefully make you chuckle as much as it does me....

"TO THE BATMOBILE, LET'S GO!"
