I've thought about this for a while. Guitars come in so many different shapes and styles and no two guitars sound alike (as far as I can tell).
Prince's personality is the same way. There are just so many different parts of Prince's personality that leak out through his different styles of music.

It's no coincidence that Prince's instrument of choice is usually the guitar because there are so many different kinds that they can suit whatever mood he's in and get his message across better than his words will.

As for the flute, that's something completely different. It has a certain sound that's so beautiful that I love when Prince includes the flute in one of his songs.
Te Amo Corazon and The Dance help get his sensitive side across in the best possible way, to show off his inner beauty, if you will.

And I apologize if I sound like I'm thinking too much on this... you know how I can get with my "overanalyzing"... Prince's habit of "thinking outside the box" is contagious and has since rubbed off on me.
