Exactly what (and who) do u think this song is really about?

not sure i have a great answer ... when i heard that song alot i didnt really like it or understnd it ...

at first i woulda guessed it was biblical ...

but now ... years later ... i kinda think it has something to do with the whole way (around that time) they were romancing "the artist" to use the "Prince" name again and sign him to a major label again (which Clive Davis did for that album)

I definitely got the industry rant part. Knowing little of religion, and never having read the Bible, maybe I missed that.

I wondered if it was about him & Mayte and how the relationship was basically over at that point, and if maybe he felt that his selling of the relationship was part of its downfall, including the baby tragedy.

Also he mentions Adam & Eve and the video shows a pregnant woman when he sings the line "can you tell me the reason Adam never left Eve." So did Adam not love Eve, but just stick around for the kids? Did Prince not love Mayte, but he just got her pregnant?

It's a weird song, that's for certain.
