there will be a new album this year and a tour. perhaps not a world tour.
seems like he switches tours playing america on one and europe on the next tour. with his reign in vegas ending shortly he could hit the road with some form of tour, however small or large by summer. and you know prince, there's just no way in hell he won't hit us with a few new tracks this year, be it through a new 3121.com store or with an official album in stores and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

dont you yearn for a proper release?? like when michael jackson releases an album (eg history)
eg 3121 could of been: First single March: Black Sweat (America: No.4 - England: No.2) The Album Two Weeks Later: 3121 (America: No.1 - England: No.1) (Many Tv performances eg: Top of the pops.. and loads of interviews) Second single: May: Incense and Candles (Again, large promotion) (America: No.9 - England: No.12) June-May: WORLD TOUR (America and europe and asia) September: Fury (Mtv could of done somekind of prince day with a concert from the 3121 tour) (America: No.19 - England: No.20) then in April: Te Amo Corazon (loads of promotion) (America: No.9 - Eng: 6) thats what it should of been. not just an apearence on SNL then the occasional award show. [Edited 4/18/07 6:23am] Te Amo was released as the first single. It went nowhere. Black Sweat went nowhere as well. I don't see these chart postitions you have (if that's what they are). More importantly, why should Prince have done as you say? Shouldn't he do his business as he sees fit? Do you honestly think it would have made a difference to anyone besides his fam base? well you obviously haven't been following the "insider" posts on the boards. members with inside scoups have clearly hinted at a new album this summer....these hints started months ago, and then what appears on 3121.com?
there is definately a new album this year.

nah, that's just marketing hype. it doesn't change the music one iota. i never cared about prince going underground online with his npgmc cuz we still got the music as fans. who cares about a big hoopla on tv and in magazines? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

To be fair, I got the feeling that Prince had every intention of promoting 3121 a lot more but something got in the way. The divorce, maybe? I don't know. But considering how long before the album's release the 3121 concept had been hinted at, I'd be very surprised if the odd lack of promotion and lack of tour was intentional. He seemed to want the whole 3121 thing to be big and even now, over a year later, it's still around. I'm quite glad because I find the 3121 concept quite cool - certainly more so than the tired New Power Generation thing. The album's promotion started well and then seemed to just stop. I reckon something must have happened over at Prince Towers. Going back to your first point on this thread. I see no reason why we won't get an album this summer from Prince and I see no reason to doubt that it's going to be called Planet Earth, given that we've already seen lyrics for the song and the recent 3121.com announcement was clearly hinting at a major project which, more often than not for Prince, will involve an album and this time around, hopefully, the long-awaited world tour.

I don't know...personally I don't care what he does as far as an album. He has enough stuff out there I have not had time to enjoy...I just got the TGE album and still need more.
If he does, GREAT, if he does not....who cares..not me..But I am sure there will be bitchin if he does not get that album out...and if he does get the album out they'll be a thread on here criticizing it..so what's the point? Just do whatever you want Prince, because your damned if you do and damned if you don't.....

Uh, because he's released an album for each of the last 29 years. So why would he stop now, the 30th year anniversary of him being in the music business. His ego wouldn't allow him to break his streak now. Also, he's constantly recording so it's just a matter of time before he releases a new album.

There was a 2 year gap between Musicology and 3121 and now there's been another 2 year gap. Given that Prince used to regularly put out an album every year, whichever way you look at it an album is due! As for touring, the guy loves playing live, it's only a matter of time before a new tour of some description. With so much unheard recorded music, he could put out an album anytime, quite what he is waiting for I have no idea.

Oops, my bad but that was probably due to the extensive Musicology tour that followed the release. However, it's only been 1 year since 3121 came out.

Yeah you're right, but there was a 2 year gap of new material before Musicology as well as after, so he's definately been slowing down the rate of new material.

It's not like Prince has been sitting on his ass doing nothing, why does everyone expect an album every year... and then when he does release it everyone will be bitchin about how it should have been better. I have heard so much negative about his last two albums...i love those. jmo

Well, with Prince anything is possible and nothing is set in stone.
But there is certainly a new album due this summer from what I've heard. (of course 'summer' in Prince's world could equally mean november or never, so personally I wouldn't worry about, whatever happens will happen)

no way is there gonna be an album this summer.
when a major artist releases an album, its on the release scheldule for months ahead. theirs news, videos singles, publicity. artists dont just release albums all of a sudden. if there is an album this year itll be winter 2007 [Edited 4/19/07 9:28am]

I would say he plans lots of things but most don't see the light of day. Also not being signed to a major record label makes his release schedule somewhat different - he is probably scouting around looking for some mug to give him exactly what he wants before he can put out another album. Before all the "slave" stuff he wasn't interested in the "business" element, just keen to get whatever music he had recorded, released when he wanted. Now that he to consider the "business" side, it probably is more effort and maybe costs him more initially hence the reduced released schedule.
