I got both my Sister and Brother into Prince.

Some friends like him. Some do not. Family do not understand him.

I would like to acknowledge my dad and thank him for introducing me to Prince initially. I must have told this story a million times since I got here, but I'll tell it again.
"Purple Rain" was on VH1 when we were flipping thru the channels a year or two ago. My dad told me to stay on it even thu it was halfover, giving me a little commentary here and there to give me a better idea of what Prince was all about. Then when I saw him move in the last 10 minute which I dubbed "the best 10 minutes of my life"... the rest was history.
I'm not quite sure if my dad's still into Prince now, but was with his career during his peak during the Purple Rain era.

My mom isn't so into him. She calls him "an acquired taste". And doesn't seem to get him the way I do. But that's ok, not everyone can get into him as easily as I did.

As for my friends, I've only told a few. One from high school just told me that he thinks Prince is "weird"... but that's ok too.

My roommate from last year does understand Prince the way I do and when we first spoke about him, it was amazing. It felt like I was talking to one of the people on the boards.

My mum thinks shes a huge fan but is only really a fan of the Purple Rain era. Still, better than hating on him.

A few friends like Cream, Kiss and Lets Go Crazy but I have yet to met anyone as fanatical as me

i got my sister to luuurve him, my bro likes him, and my parents also don't understand him... most of my friends like his music as well

My chidlin LOVE Prince. My youngest says he's a hottie too. I had to print her some pix of him for her notebook. I'm surprised at how many kids these days really dig him. She tells me that most of her friends love P too.

My mom and sister really like prince. My boyfriend appreciates Prince's movies more than the music, he really likes UTCM. My friends just don't understand why I like Prince's music soooo much.

Have no friends that like him! My husband says he doesn't like him but he sat glued to a Musicology DVD & watched Purple Rain last night without complaining! Think it was Apollonia that helped him, spesh when she jumps into the lake!! My children, 5 & 8 are really into his music, but that might just be due to brainwashing as its the only music I EVER play in my car! Quite sweet to see my 5 yr old skipping around singing 'Lolita'! & my 8 yr old loves Black Sweat! They even know alot of the words to his older stuff too but I was a bit concerned when my 8yr old sung 'now move your big ass round this way so I can work on that zipper, baby' ooops!
You lot are the only people I know that like him, hence the reason why I pop in daily! Would love a 'real' friend that liked him, that would be cool!

I managed to get some of my friend a little bit into his music and showed them that he ain´t that weird afterall. My parents think he´s sick even though I think my dad believes that he is a musical genius.
And a lot of my friends don´t even know him. They´re not into music that much so I don´t talk to them about stuff like that.

I don't really have to many friends that like Prince, besides the friends I met here on the Org. But friends and family have just learned to deal with the fact that I won't stop listening to his music anytime soon.

My brother used to call him "Prance" and laughed at him all the time. But...my brother loves Maceo Parker, Miles Davis, Larry Graham, pretty much all of Prince's friend's/idols. My bro absolutely loves and respects Tom Waits too...

He called me one day and said "instead of listening to f***** Prince music all the time, why don't you check out Larry Graham, that's funk"

I quickly pointed out Larry was a friend of Prince's and was touring with him. My brother came over to watch Rave Un2 the year 2000, thought it was good, but still continued mocking...until recently...I sent him an interview where Tom Waits basically said Prince was an absolute genius that no one could touch. That pretty much sealed the deal. I;m gonna buy my bro a copy of NEWS now.

i haven't met someone that in2 him yet bits n pieces here n there, so depressin i need someone who understands me,maybe like u guys.my kids r diggin' him. my eldest (6yrs) "is that prince mummy?" yes darling.they r in total silence when i play or watch him, which of course is constant. luv u baby.

Not living at my parents anymore for a long time, but bringing back some memories:

My mom:
"Gee, do you really like to to listen to this kind of music? He can't even sing.... he sounds like a duck" (her reaction on me playing 'Hot Thing' very loud in my bedroom)

My dad:
"Prince must have been influenced by the Beatles a lot" (his comment when i did play Lovesexy in the livingroom)

My older sister:
She said she didnt like Prince a lot, but often when i wasnt in my bedroom, she sneaked into my room, to grab the Parade album and then she would play 'Anotherloverholenyohead' loud in her bedroom time after time.

My younger sister:
She was a lot younger then i was around that time, but she liked to dance and fool around when i played Lovesexy.

People can be so close-minded sometimes.

I completely understand where they're coming from, though. I think that I wasn't introduced to him the way I was, I would be on the other side of the fence with the ignorant public.

I've always had a deep respect for his dedication to his art, and that stemmed out and became a supreme loyalty towards him. If anyone spoke badly of him within earshot, I'd let them have it. But if they simply say "he's weird, he's creepy, etc."... then I say "whatever, that's cool."

My musician/artist friends love him.
My old street friends like to say that he is GAY.
I am used to it and I don't see my old street friends very often.

My sister likes him, but she is not a huge fan like me. My friend use to like him more in the mid late 80's. She now does not care too much for him anymore.

I have one son who likes Prince and acknowledges his talent. He's music buff so he has very ecclectic music taste but he downloads everything(legally and illegally). He buys Prince for me then he borrows it . My teen daughters just think he's gay or weird...My youngest likes Prince alot. She's seen Purple Rain and really loved the Beautiful Ones scene especially when he exposed his chest!!! She's only eight. My girlfriends love him and have since high school...My husband thinks Prince is in the closet, but he really enjoyed the concert Saturday at 3121. He actually said it was the best show he's been to. Some of my coworkers are pseudo Prince fans who are not familiar with most of his music. Every once in awhile I'll give them a special CD with one or two Prince songs from ONA or TRC just to tease them.

You can't get away with calling yourself a true Prince "fan" if you check out more than just his "hits".
