Right, well I've listened to it, and I looked up the lyrics too.

And I don't know what you're on about. You'll have to explain it to me.

The only lyric I think you could possibly be talking about is "You must act like a man", but surely not ?
Cross-dressing may not seem like the most manly of pursuits, but it is, after all, just clothing choice. It shouldn't be a big deal.

If Prince ever felt the need to slip on a dress and wear flowers in his hair in order to deliver a brilliant performance, then he should be encouraged to do so.

He'd still rock it. lol

If prince decided to dress like mogely off the jungle book in nothing but leaves and stuff i wouldn't care..

(unless of course the leaves gave him some rare rash that made him incapable to make good music) falloff

Good God people. I really would have expected better from a crowd of Prince fans. Nothing on this thread is drag. Nothing. Because -and I'd thought more of you would know this -there's hell of a lot more to drag than a guy simply putting on makeup and pretty clothes. If that's all it took, Prince hasn't been out of drag since 1978.

But it's not, and he isn't.

Prince has never done drag -at least not in public. Though if he did give it a try he'd make a damned cute Princess.

That said though, I don't think it'd be reaching too far to say Our Hero has a touch of transvestite in him. But again, not really the same thing.

Drag is done with the intention of passing -albeit in a campy, hypersexualised way -as a woman. Oftentimes drag has a character attached to it. Sometimes an impersonation of a gay idol like Cher or Judy Garland, and sometimes with an invented character. For all his feminine touches, Prince has never worn them (publicly) with the intent of appearing as female.

Unless it's being played for laughs like in the series Little Britain, drag also tends to require the removal of any and all visible unfeminine body hair. Prince, as we all know, is apparently too attached to his to hit the wax. Or just too scared. razz

Then of course, there's the issue of body language, which is really the most important part of doing drag. Prince does not have the body language of a drag queen, even in his girliest outfits.

Let's try to explain it this way: Is a woman wearing pants and no makeup in drag just because men wear pants and no makeup? Or would she have to actually appear like a man and put on a "guy" character for it to be drag? Well, it's the same thing with Prince. He wears makeup and some lovely, pretty clothes. But eyeliner does not a drag queen make.

That was fascinating. But back to reality, drag is simply wearing clothes associated with the opposite sex. Which Prince AFAIK hasn't really taken part in, save for the recent corset. So um...case closed. lock

To clarify things a bit more, I'll use The Dame as an example. smile

This is drag:

This is not, in spite of the heavy makeup and girly outfit:

What reality do you live in? Drag is so much more than weraing clothes of the opposite sex.

I wore a Boy Scout shirt today and no makeup. According to your exceedingly naarrow defintion, I arrived at work in drag. Stunning.
