Anyone remember MTV's "Week In Rock" hosted by Kurt Loder?

Well, I remember the opening night of the Lovesexy tour in Paris was covered, complete with footage. Maybe my eyes or my memory are deceiving me, but I distinctly remember a clip of Prince blazin on the guitar wearing a white blouse, black mini skirt with white stockings and knee high boots. There were suspenders hanging from the skirt and he had a big black bow with white polka dots in his hair.

I remember this because my father REFUSED to let me look the other way.

"HE'S A F*G!!!!" my dad screamed.

Anyone else remeber this?

That wasn't a skirt it was shorts.

That's just plain awful eek When and where was this?
I am so glad I didn't see him in this back then,
all of this would really make me wonder..
hmmm A skirt& pantyhose neutral .You can say it's shorts
but I bet you he wished he could've worn one.
You would
be shouting those three little letters if this
was your next door neighbor dressed in this apparel,
but so many in
denial back in the day, including myself. boxed

You must have thought Boy George, David Bowie and Sylvestor ,just to name a few, were 'very sexy' back in the day. lol

"There's nothing Sexy about a MAN dressing in ladies clothing!"

"Let a man be a man" (Gett off)--Prince

no no no!

Well at least he has finally found his true love … what a pity he can't marry himself.

The guy wore briefs on stage in 1980 and pretended to be jerking off his guitar. Clearly he does not give a fuck how other people perceive how he looks.

How did he get so brave/bold?

Oh but he did! That is exactly why he dressed the way he did, and what made it so cool to be a "freak on this side" back then. However much I understand how he evolves, I somehow feel that boldness gone these days...

Apart from the shock effect, I also thing that especially during the first "bad" part of the Lovesexy concert, he deliberately played the androgyn/"drag" idea... Opinions?

nod I just had this conversation today after watching the Prince of Paisley Park again. I think he played up to all of his audiences.. black, white, straight, gay, bi, funk, rock, r&b, singers, musicians... he had it all, a little bit of everything for everyone. As if to say, "I'll dress half man, half woman, sing high falsetto, sing baritone, kiss women, grind men, play guitar, drums & keyboard onstage..." Hell he didn't miss a beat. guitar

It would but I would hope that at this point he's looking for a little of himself in his audience (people who still appreciate original music) rather than trying to find himself through his audience. I think he's been there done that.

I heard him say in his 'uptown' lyrics, that its okay to dress in drag, but has Prince ever actually been in drag before. I saw him dressed up as a girl on his signs o' time album (inside actually) cover when I was like 4 years old...are their any pictures of this?

The Uptown Lyrics don't say it's ok to dress in drag. Can't say that he hasn't pulled out the Executive Transvestite look on occasion though.

That is one of the main reasons I fell in love with Prince in the first place, because he did whatever he wanted to do and doesn't give a damn about anybody elses opinions and it's made him a multi-millionaire!

falloff Chalk it up to lyrical errors... I have a friend who messes up lyrics all the time. In Glamerous Life she swore Sheila E was sayin, "Big Mama same as her Dad" when she really says, "Big brown Mercedes sedan." She just makes me lol

Believe it or not, I really am working. So far today, I've been on here twice, for a total of about 7 minutes, and I've posted 3 times (all to this thread). So I'm hardly shirking my responsibilities.

If they only knew?????

They do know. They also know I get my work done, so they don't care if mess around a bit on the web.

Right, well I've listened to it, and I looked up the lyrics too.

And I don't know what you're on about. You'll have to explain it to me.

The only lyric I think you could possibly be talking about is "You must act like a man", but surely not ?
Cross-dressing may not seem like the most manly of pursuits, but it is, after all, just clothing choice. It shouldn't be a big deal.

If Prince ever felt the need to slip on a dress and wear flowers in his hair in order to deliver a brilliant performance, then he should be encouraged to do so.
