What is the history of Dance Electric? Didn't Prince write it?

Did he always intend to give it to Andre Cymone? How high did the song chart? What Prince album would the song would have fit best on? I say 1999 or Controversy.

It's a great song. I wish P would have kept it for himself. It was nice of him to give it away, but still...

The basic story I got from the interview was that Prince ran into Andre at a discotech (however u spell it) and told him that he's got a new song "The Dance Electric" that he wanted to give him.
Prince said to Andre, "come by and get this hit".

Even though they had a falling out a while before that, Prince didn't seem to care because he loves giving his songs away.
