other than that, I've no idea. I would check a used CD store or Ebay. It's available on Ebay right now. But make sure you get the 5 track UK version. It also has a killer Quiet Storm remix instrumental with Eric Leeds on sax AND flute. It's RIDICULOUS!   | |

Prince often has several different versions of many tracks, it's not an unusual occurrence for him at all. Indeed, up until 2000 or so just about every retail single was accompanied by a maxi-single of remixes and/or extended versions. Prince often has several different versions of many tracks, it's not an unusual occurrence for him at all. And I'm sure he's got a few diff. versions of certain songs in his "vault". Actually, he might have a vault of just extended versions... he said something about there being "vaults" as in plural. It's kinda neat how he can do that... writing different versions of his songs. Then again, I'm a writer and I've often written a few extra scenes for my stories that I couldn't put in my final work... actually, I usually end up writing them after I finish the piece itself. They're more like substitutions for certain scenes that I just thought up... but can't bring myself to put in. The one thing I can't seem to get away from as a writer is making everything overly dramatic... the substitution scenes I wrote are a little too dramatic to put in cuz the overall thing is dramatic as it is... I really ought 2 follow Prince's example and try not to write so much in the dramatic category, even if it is one of my strong points. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I luv this extended version. Very emotional and heartfelt. The only pity is that he uses a drumcomputer in the song instead of the great Michael Bland's drum parts on TGE version. | |

well said. I think he did say at one time that there is a thin line between love & hate. Hearing that song just blown me away. It sounds weird saying this, but I had no idea he was capable of something like that. Writing 2 versions of a song that are so completely different in the way they sound and feel. I know from your posts that you prefer his early 90s period, but there's tons of good stuff from the 80s - particularly the extended versions of Mountains, Anotherloverholenyohead, Kiss, I Wish U Heaven. The I Hate U maxi-single kinda reminds me of the Come On maxi-single from Newpower Soul which has a cool extended version. | |

I only know a handful of tracks from 1999, the entirity of Purple Rain (obviously), a couple of ATWIAD tracks, Kiss, 2 tracks from SOTT and Alphabet St (  hate it).
I don't refer to TGE as early 90's, though, even if that's when the trax were written. The 90's tend to have my interest though since that's when Prince went thru his growth period under a diff. name. His business about writing extended versions, I don't think we'll ever know why, but I just find it mind-blowing how he can make 2 versions of a song sound equally amazing. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I HATE YOU...because I love you. I'm with you, the extended is a bit rambling for me. TGE version is perfection with maybe his most perfect guitar solo. That one line makes me crack up almost every time I hear it... it's like he takes on a whole new personality at that point. You're right, the extend version is a bit "ranty"... but I've only heard it once, so I can't be completely sure how I feel about it. I love both versions though... but the guitar solo at the end really captures his frustration & sadness. One of my fav. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong.
