I give it a 10. I think it is a superior album. Basing that on...well the album has nice keyboard programming and a kick ass guitar solo on batdance (is that one word or 2?) 'A pillow covered in all our tears'

ATOMIC BATTERIES TO POWER! "Robin will make you sway like that man...." Oh well, f*ck the gangstas, they were all only weed and guns anyway.
"Plus, we got the Bat Gas so why would you run up?" 'S' on his chest, Neitzchien Tw*t!

my guess is what is meant by "forgotten" is that it is under represented on The Hits/The B-sides and all of the Prince greatest hits albums. In fact, 200 Balloons is the closest that any of those albums gets to a Batman song. Granted, he has had NOTHING to do with the track arrangements on those albums , but hell, Prince didn't even include any of them on his ONE NIGHT ALONE LIVE CD, so that shows you where his mind is on those tunes.
My guess is that it was too expensive to add them considering they contain samples of actors that would need to be paid a royalty fee for every disk sold and that made them cost prohibative. Yes, they are forgotten by the people who create his best of collections... but not by some of the fans. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I seem to recall reading something long ago indicating that MJ was slated by WB to do the soundtrack, but that Nicholson, Keaton, and Burton all demanded Prince. I also remember reading somewhere that Burton was not impressed with Princes work for the project. "You've got a million dollar smile, but you can't buy time...

Prince offered to do the soundtrack- he wanted to do a whole album so they let him but really only wanted 2 songs intially. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

It certainly sounds like typical behavior for Prince. I don't recall the source of my info - it was probably a post here at the org! "You've got a million dollar smile, but you can't buy time...

I really like the album. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

This album is EQ-ed and mastered poorly. But "The Future" is awesome. Kick the old school joint 4 the true funk soldiers.
1. Sign 'o' the Times 2. 1999 3. Dirty Mind 4. Parade 5. Purple Rain

I dig the Batman soundtrack...What I found interesting is how P had a no. 1 single with one of the weirdest songs of his career ("Batdance")...I remember listening to the countdown shows on the radio and I would be waiting for the funky breakdown to hit...Just a fun song...

Yes, If I recall correctly, they were using 1999 and Baby, I'm A Star as placeholders in the movie... which were later replaced by Partyman and Trust.

Loved this album when it first came out. Especially "Future" and "Electric Chair." And absolutel went wild for BatDance!! After Lovesexy and the Black album it was a little light, but it was nice to see Prince back on the charts and MTV (it still played videos in 89...)

Correct me if i am wrong.....I do believe that the Batman soundtrack sold in excess of 6 million, so IMO....To me it makes this CD a CLASSIC!

A poor album by Princes standards. Even the quality of the mix sounds rubbish.
I do like Vicki Waiting though. As equality grows, violence declines.

I've not actually heard the Batman soundtrack myself as of yet. Though i don't think its generally a forgotten album its just generally seen as a soundtrack album not a Prince album if u get wat i mean
On a lighter note, check Shawn of the Dead where they're selecting which discs to throw at the zombies

At the moments of its release i was dissapointed in the album. The music seemed to simple, not offering anything new at first. It sounded like he tried to go back to the sound of the 1999 album a bit, but then in a less creative way, a bit calculated way even.
In retrospect maybe i was 'spoiled' a bit by the seemingly endless expressions of creativity on Parade, Sign and Lovesexy. First, this is a very cohesive album, compact, in general its very good, maybe he should have replaced The arms of orion, with the original version of Rave unto the Joy Fantastic or 200 Balloons, but apart from that its one of his most cohevise albums ever. Second, the mixture of a a bit cold, detached sounding music (the beats, the fact that most instruments are used in a sampled way), combined with the quasi-psychological lyrics, and the use of humor to enlighten the more dark elements of the album, REALLY fit the movie perfectly. Therefore i consider it one of his last very good albums. It might be no masterpiece like Parade or Sign, therefore its musically to predictable, but the depth the lyrics give to the music and the cohesive quality of the record makes me put this one in the 'subtop' of Prince albums: an 8,5 out of 10.
