This is EXACTLY why I think Prince woulda been a great Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean. He'd get to wear lots of eye makeup, flouncing around in flowing, frilly shirts, thigh high boots, and a do-rag, all while being larger than life and making grand gestures. This is the only non-musical role that I think he woulda been a natural in.

Wonderful...no. But mildly amusing ... yes. He has a dry sarcastic humour that I tend to like in people in general. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I know he ain't the best actor in the world... I respect that and I certainly don't tear him down for it. I still dig the movie and I like hearing him speak, especially when he's so young there compared 2 his interviews I've seen later on. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. scriptgirl said: I think that he has definite charisma and he moves very well in front of the camera, which loves him, but his line readings in Purple Rain were rather flat. In Under the Cherry Moon, he showed a flair for comedy and sort of developed more of a character. What do you think?
He is hot, who cares! When your a little piece of delectable hotness you sooooo don't need acting ability. Just look into those eyes.. mmmmm...hypnotic ...and listen to those lyrics..now that's where the true talent lies. God'damn it.. i get all hot and bothered just thinking about his acting, or rather lack of. Yuuuummmmmy...!!!

I was convinced he was actually turned on by Appolonia during the PR love scene oh yea. that love scene has to be real. The love scenes were in PR and in Graffiti Bridge they were if any. "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."

well- he does okay in the films he's acted in. but the lines weren't that great. I think he was more relaxed in UTCM than in GB. but my fave is PR, becuase the emotional scnes with his father made me teary. so out of 10....i'd give him 4.5. but for looks, he def. gets a 10! "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."

As a pure actor I rate him as one the poorest actors I have unfortunately had to watch. It's sometimes brutally painful. He tries so hard at being mysterious it hurts to watch. Almost of all of GB is a frightful mess. PR for just the acting is like getting a colonscopy without sedation. UTCM has it's comical moments because there's a lot of slapstick humour. Look I am a huge fan or fam or whatever but when it comes to acting he should leave that alone and go in the studio and make music or better yet tour so we all can see him live. [Edited 4/18/07 19:26pm] What is a "pure actor?" We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree, but don't know who or what 'Biz Markie' is. I enjoyed Prince and Jerome in UTCM tho. They were quite a good double-act. It'll probably never happen, but it might be interesting if a good director approached P with an interesting supporting role, for his own age now, witha good script, and P just let go of 'control' and acted, even if he was just playing a version of himself, as another poster said about Travolta and Tarantino.
