Sad day when Prince is gone. How would you cope?

With the passing of so many legends in music lately, I was curious what would you all do if you woke up one morning and Prince was no longer with us. The most famous celebrity that passed that most hurt me was Len Bias. The morning he died my mother came to me and told me that someone that I loved in sports had died. I first said, Gary Clark( big Skins fan), she said "no". At that point I knew it was Len Bias. I was in middle school headed to high school and that affected how I started my high school life because I was so young. Eventually, I would grow through that heartache and grow to love University of Maryland Basketball even more. But in saying, right now Prince is the only celebrity that I have that bond with. I just wondered how most of you would feel and how would it change your view of music and princes music in all.

Princes passing would in no way upset me as much as the xploitation of that event that will inevitably follow.. Media and some 'fans' circlin like vultures.
I'd prolly just celebrate the man's life and legacy a lil more than I do already.

oddly, this came to mind a few weeks b4 I started on this road. I actually had this fear that he'd suffer the same fate as John Lennon... I have my doubts these days and after hearing about his growth period where he learned to control his need to record & write music constantly, I didn't have to worry about him suffering the same fate as Elvis or Van Gough.

But for one day quite a day quite a while ago, the thought of the day when he's gone from this world plagued me with sadness. I can't begin go fathom what that would be like.

I think I would find myself unable to go on my everday activities and cry my eyes out while playing his music thru my headphones, reflecting on it and thinking how he'll never be able to write anymore... and think about how he's changed me and made me a better person.

If it came about b4 he reached a rightful old age, I wouldn't be able to get over it for several days... maybe weeks. I'd be an absolute wreck.

I'm trying not to burst into tears while writing this... the thought of it just scares me.

I'd probably end up going before he will. Depend on how long from the time he retires, if I've weaned myself off some. Now I'd be devastated

eek I can tell you one thing that's for sure....Prince is the only celebrity that I would shed tears for after hearing of his death. There have been many celebs in the past that I have felt saddened for and many still living that would make me feel sad to hear of their death...but Prince is the only one that I would truly mourn! neutral sad

I wonder though if there really would be mass hysteria....would he even allow anything resembling a public service where flocks of devout fans could come and pay their respects? Seems to me that it would be just as private as any other aspect of his life.....private services closed to the public. Everyone would be waiting for some little tidbit of info....just like we do now....only it wouldn't be about a new CD or tour..... neutral
He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...batting eyes

Yeah, I agree it would pretty private, most likely. And he'd be the only celeb I can think of this point that I'd mourn for quite some time.

But I think in his last will and testment, he'd say something like, he wouldn't want his "fans" to mourn him. He'd want them to continue living life to its fullest... kinda like what he says in the song "1999".

Everybody's got a bomb, we could all die any day. But before I let that happen, I'll dance my life away.

It may sound callous, but I don't think I'd be very emotional about Prince's passing. As much as I love his music and as much as an influence as he's had on my life, I don't really feel a personal connection with him--the way I do close friends and relatives.

It would probably depend on the circumstances. If Prince lived to be 85 and went in his sleep of "natural causes", it wouldn't affect me as much as if he went out of this world ala John Lennon or Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez.

I try to put things in perspective. Prince has lived life to the fullest. He's had the kind of life most of us can only dream of, and his influence on music and culture will live on for gererations after he's gone. So if he lives a long life, I won't be too distraught when he goes.

But who's to say what kind of reaction I'll have when that time comes, no matter what I tell myself now.

I certainly hope that he'll be around for another good half a century... just as long as he's not gone in the blink of an eye when I'm just getting to know him. [I dealt with a boyband I really got into that broke up a year after I knew of their existence. I don't want a repeat of that].

I'd probably do more mourning if he met a premature demise.

As far as coping, though, I'd probably just play whatever songs I felt a personal connection with him. So, it'd feel like he was still alive to me, but remind me that he'd live on in my heart & soul. Gold is my soul tattoo and I'll probably play that a few times to feel like he's still with me, like he's always been thru that song.

Yeah, that scene was the first time the thought had ever crossed my mind, I was depressed for weeks at the very idea. I hated that song for years just because of that. In the back of my mind I took it as some kind of preminition(sp?). Then I learned not to take that stuff so seriously.

I've informed my job over the years that in the event this happens, "I'll be away for a few days". Expect for me to call off for I will be in mourning.

all right. neutral okay. let's talk about aging and death. the fact that, as we grow older, our emotional landscape features more and more empty spaces where people we loved once were, who have since passed on. of how our bodies begin to crumble and fail, leaving us in pain or crippled or simply unable to do the things we once enjoyed. of how each day seems a gift and each night an uncertainty. will we even wake up in the morning? and, if we do, will today be the day the [proverbial safe falls out of an eleventh story window and creams us? neutral confused sigh sad bawl

Boy, what would Prince think of us if he saw this baby?

He'd probably say something like "you shouldn't be wasting your time worrying about the inevitable"...

Prince wakes up each morning and every day is a new day to him. He could care less about worrying about something this minor.

Watching the 1999 & Little Red Corvette videos really cheered me up after reading this. I think I should heed his wishes and just stop worrying about it. If he isn't, why should we?
