A few good scores at the local wrecka stow!(?)

Just got back from Kansas City (went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit - pretty cool!). I happened into a shop specializing in vintage vinyl and found the following pieces which officially begin my Prince vinyl collection...

~Controversy (marked 4$)
~Parade (marked 10$)
~Purple Rain (w/ poster in really good shape!) (marked 5$)
~SOTT (marked 6$)
~Graffiti Bridge (marked 8$)
~ATWIAD (good shape - side flap still intact!) (marked 6$)
~1999 (marked 10$)

All looked to be in pretty good condition (although I'm hardly an expert on the matter)

I also picked up a 12" promo record for "Gold" featuring 3 versions of the single and "Rock N Roll Is Alive (And It Lives In Minneapolis)" on a translucent yellow record. Asking price was $15, and the price sticker said "wax" on it. Anyone have anymore info on this?

Also found a Lovesexy tour book (marked at $14) in near mint shape and a publication by a Mpls journalist named Jon Bream called "Prince, Rocks Purple Reign" (marked at $10)

I talked shop with the guy a bit (turns out he was a big Gary Cherone fan - so we discussed VHIII at length!), and he ended up giving me the whole lot for $57 plus tax!

All in all I think I made out fairly well!

Thanx! When you add up the original asking prices for everything I actually made out like a bandit!

I went to a record store a few years ago, i asked the owner if he had any Prince vinyl. he took me upstairs to this room where there were boxes of old used records. I stumbled across a few of interest. They had hand written price stickers on them of around 1.99 to 2.99

I took the ones i had selected down stairs to the counter and the owners says they are not that price anymore. I askedhow much they were. He says that ones 10.99 that one is blah blah.... i told him to go fuck himself.

Putting a price on them and leaving them to rot in an upstairs room, then somebody comes to buy them and all of a sudden the price tag on them is now invalid. what a dick.

I just looked over at ebay, why do they want so much for stuff we can get for almost nothing?

It's all pretty typical of people who are trying to make $$ off of something. I'd be willing to bet that for most shops it's pretty rare to run into a Prince fan. But since they probably know what an underground following he has they'd most likely be inclined to crank up the price for someone they know is more willing to spend the cash on it. It's a gamble on their part - but it works sometimes. And Ebay has gotten to where they just have their own whacked-out world full of marketing and pricing agendas.

I still can't believe what a steal I got on all that stuff though!
