You know, I had this same thought! That by playing "All Along The Watchtower" at the Superbowl Prince was responsible for awaking the last four Cylon sleeper agents. Who knows? Maybe the BSG producers caught the superbowl performance and it inspired them.
I didn't make the Planet Earth connection till I read your post though. Nice!

Okay, it read spoiler, but damn! I still have to watch the season ender, but some weird link between BSG and prince is too hard to ignore. The man behind BSG does like himself some Hendrix though, he played with the idea of using a Hendrix song within the show. Now that's hard to imagine, Hendrix in sci-fi...

Now I've seen it, it's more similar to the u2 version of the song...

It's not a Hendrix song, it's a Bob Dylan song. And they built the composition almost 100% from the ground-up. Check the BSG Composer's website (BearMcCreary.com) and he talks about the song's birth.

Ron Moore told an interviewer he planned to use purple haze (I think) for the introduction to earth. When I read about all along the watchtower I immediately thought of Hendrix blasting through CIC. Thanks for the website though, McCreary is doing a fine job for this series!
