Good topic!

I find the 93-95 era the most interesting, because something in Prince woke up, and he started churning out good stuff by the bucket load. However, my favourite album is SOTT.

Wow this is a simple question that I think most P fans would find hard to answer. So many good times. I will say Lovesexy though because I was feeling the concept of the tour/album/aftershows.
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

For me,
musically it was 1999-Parade.

But I do like Atwiad -Sign 'O' The Times in that this seems when he first started expanding more with what he was trying to say.

I would have to say the earlier period, say 79-87. (what is the actual definition of an era? biggrin ) My favorite album is also SOTT- closely followed by ATWIAD and 1999. But that's only if I'm forced to choose! lol Ask me another day, and my answers might change. But SOTT is always at the top.
Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...music

I'd say the SOTT/Lovesexy era is my favorite as well as the most interesting. Like you mentioned before the early symbol years we're pretty particularly interesting too.

Hmm, I'll go with 1992-1995 as I think prince - Come - The Gold Experience is my favorite trinity of albums and they all seem interconnected in one way or another.

I'm currently taking interst in the era when his name was prince.

I have a basic idea what he was like during the 80's as well as in the present.

So many mysteries still surround the years from 93-99.

I just watched "The Beautiful Experience" on Housequake and I like quite a few of the songs that he did that were from the supposed original cut of TGE or Come. I forget which. And since I listened to TGE earlier today, everything made more sense than if I were flying in blind.
Actually I liked all of the songs, except for Interactive... that was just blahh for me. Someone on HQ's boards said in response to my complaints of Endorphinmachine that I might not like Interactive. To this point, I can more than tolerate EM, it's grown on me quite a bit.

TGE itself is a very interesting album that will take me a long time to completely figure out, but I've got the basic idea down. For my next albums, I'm hoping to get Come, Emancipation & Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic to learn as much as I can about the "gray area" that still exists in those years when Prince went under a diff. name.

Several of the songs appeared on early versions of BOTH albums.

It's been a while since I watched TBE but IIRC, it includes the Come tracks : Race, Pheromone, Loose, and Papa.

Yeah, I just checked the lyrics out cuz I guess I was focusing more on the music. It really helped to listen to TGE b4 cuz I'm a bit more prepared.
The lyrics are pretty interesting, so Come is definitely peeking my interest. I saw it for $8.99 at FYE, so hopefully it'll still be there when i come into more money.
I can definitely tell that it had early versions of Shh & TMBGITW (I prefer the TGE version of the 2nd cuz I like the use of keyboards and the ending better, it goes better with the overall scheme of the album). But hearing Shh in an earlier stage was a neat experience, cuz its one of my top fav. tracks on TGE.
Acknowledge Me was good (and good lyrics, I'm aware its on Crystal Ball along with Days of Wild and Interactive--which i could do w/o).

Race is probably my favorite of the new tracks I heard because its musical arrangment is very unique, unlike anything else I've heard so far. I definitely know what you meant when you said that Come's tracks are on the more experimental side, I like the vibe I got.

I thought Acknowledge Me was in TBE but I couldn't remember. That was originally intended for TGE along with Days Of Wild. I was never fond of Interactive, either. It was okay in the context of the Prince Interactive CD-ROM but I find it to be a generally weak track overall. I usually forget about it until someone brings it up.
lol

Experimental Prince is good Prince. biggrin Race is actually a track recorded during the prince sessions. It didn't end up on that album, however, but wound up on Come instead.

Yeah, it is on TBE. Experimental Prince definitely seems to be the type of Prince that I knew existed with the way he is about his music, but just haven't seen... definitely like that side of him.
I felt like I had to listen to TGE today since its been a while since I had. After seeing TBE, I really feel like I've learned a lot today... and I always enjoy hearing "new" material (to me). With TGE in mind, I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than I would have w/o.

I really thought reading about his life around the Sign of the Times era was VERY interesting..expecially when his former associates said he was exibiting signs of real depression and struggling with alot of things in his life at the time..he kinda seemed more human to me after reading that!

I wouldn't say SOTT is my favorite album...but it is one of them..and I think it must have been a real exciting time to be a Prince fan.

For me, as I grow and mature, it's each era for as it comes. I can't divide Prince up into eras, because he's a whole package, his music reflects where he is at each stage of his life, and to me it's just interesting to watch where he is now.

IMO...I think the prince era was creepy, where he had that "no name" crap and where he had Mayte at his side like a puppet on strings and he was the only one controlling that puppet and editing her every word when she spoke, no wonder they split up! Even though this part of his life seemed weird to me, it is the most interesting.

I think when he was married to Mayte the most interesting era of Prince's life. From D&P, especially Emancipation.

I still stand by my previous statement.

prince's era interests me the most because he seems so different. He's so open in TGE... so much that he pulled me into his world and helped link a few chains that bind us to one another (these of course resemble similarities we find in each other thru the songs... "Dolphin" especially).

I look at Prince now and can see a spark of the person he was in the 80's... he's not that same person under a different name, and I certainly like the person I see with "no name". But he's a little 2 addicting 4 my own good cuz once I dive into prince's world, it's hard to find my way out again.

Haha, prince and Prince are pulling tug-o-war w/my heart.

When I watch him in the video 4 "Gold", he looks enlightened and almost "God"ly to me... Prince doesn't have that same glow at present...

It's definitely something worth looking into.
