What album would Another Lonely Christmas have been the best fit for?

I love that song and I am shocked that it never made it to an official Prince album. Does anyone know why? And what was the other song that this was teamed with? Does anyone have a pic of the cover art for this b side?

to me, it sounds perfect as a b-side. very personal song (even if he says it isn't) -- by putting it on a b-side it felt like he was giving us a special Christmas present at the time, and a peak into something a little different than what he'd normally put on an album (pre-1985 anyway)

What was the release date for this song-was it "officially" released or leaked?

'Another Lonely Christmas' was officially released as
the B-side to 'I Would Die 4 U' on November 28 1984

and the photo used on the back of the record for it
was this one...

If it had to go on an album i think it'd fit 1999 the best. Although im not entirly certain it would sit to well there. Some songs have just gonna be b-side orphans

Parade, no. SOTT, it would have been a great fit. If anything, Hot Thing should have been B side

ATWIAD I guess.
but it was a perfect b-side release at the time. As said above, it was like a gift.

I agree. Around The World In A Day would have been perfect. Or it could've been on a special EP:
Roadhouse Garden
Our Destiny
Another Lonely Christmas
Possessed
All Day All Night

Something recent. When I first heard it I honestly thought it was from at least the early 90s - definitely didn't pick it as a Purple Rain era song.

When I first heard this song, it totally enchanted me. It is a truly haunting song and I felt it had me in a trance when I first listened to it.
It gave me a bitter-sweet feeling, like being a kid and having a Christmas tree with lights, but no presents underneath.

Agreed that it makes a perfect B-side, but if I had to pick an album to put it on, it would either be 1999 or PR (a toss up).

Peace

I can see it fitting on either PR or ATWIAD, myself.

Definitely one of my Top 5 Prince songs ever though - I was stunned the first time I heard it.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I think Purple Rain or Crystal Ball if it HAD to go on any album.

Interesting question. Soundwise and just the overall feel of this cut, IF it had to be on any album, I would say the 1999 album. It FEELS closer to that than anything on the PR album and definately not ATWIAD. But since of course it was cut after 1999,.... It's a b-side through and through. And a perfect choice to back I Would Die 4 U. The timing of the release, the picture that went with it, etc. P knew what he was doing with that one.
