In your opinoin what direction could Prince take? I've read with interest that a lot of people on here don't rate The Rainbow Children or approve of the direction that Prince is taking. Personally I found some of The Rainbow Children refreshing after the mediocrity of New Power Soul and Rave.
Musically a lot of it doesn't sound like stuff Prince has released officially before and it feels like he had a vision for this one rather than the derivative Rave. Lyrically I'm not enamoured with the JW references but one listen to Last December trancends his own personal religous beliefs because the music and lyrics are beautiful. So I'm interested to find out what people think Prince could be doing with his style of music and his career?

I personally do not like TRC much. To me an album should work for me on different levels and the only level that works for me is the art design.
The music itself is kewl when funky, nice and tight, a bit p-funkish (1+1+1=3), but the rest to me sounds a bit like muzak jazz. The easy listening stuff I am not fond of. The song 1+1+1=3 feels strange too. Why didn't I mind Anna Stesia, Purple Rain, Paisley Park, The Cross and not THe Christ or any song that has lyrics like "there is a new theocratic order". Says who? I do not mind gospel at all (own lots of Mahalia Jackson and Staple Singers albums), just not the accusing kind, which I think Prince is aiming at me, but I am not sure becuz of the fact that the lyrics are gibberish. Some songs to my ears sound insulting, like She Wants Me 4 Me. All in all, not an album I could get into. But maybe all of this will change when Prince will perform the songs here. I can not wait.... Just get ready for a lot of comments against TRC, religion/spirituality, jazz & pretty much anything that doesn't involve Wendy & Lisa.

I LOVE the Rainbow Children! It was his first record since the "Love Symbol"-Album that I really loved. When I put it in my CD-Player for the first time, I just sat for one hour in amazement and it made me so happy. Could sure do without the religious lyrics, I think most of us agree about that. But the jazzy direction suits him fine. Muse 2 the paraoh is his best song in a long time! See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

The best thing about Prince has always been that you never know which directions he's going to take..
Who expected the Rainbow album after such a commercial attempt as Rave (and the High songs).

I just love it when Prince surprises us. Lovesexy spooked the hell outa me, LoL. Esp the cover...
I like the whymsical nature of his releases. Even though I do not like TRC or ONA much, still it makes you think. TRC makes me curious about what kind of bible he reads and where his religion is taking his music. I will keep posted about his where abouts, will keep collecting his music becuz he's got one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices in showbiz. Wish he would just scream again. And voice his doubts through his music.

Personally for Prince 2 make a full-on, full-scale come back in the u.k it would cost money £££££££
but there is 2 things I would like 2 c 1. Official Release of TRC (lots of promotion) 2. Last December on Single (becha-by-golly wow went 2 number 3 and that was crap) after the rainbow children I need some more "symbol" album anthems The way My Name Is Prince comes in ... something along those lines "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

i think prince could take house music out of the souless "female vocal over a track that sounds like it was made by a monkey on a casio keyboard" its stuck in..."irresistable bitch" "erotic city" "sleep around" "new world" "human body" even "face down" could tear up the club ...without sounding like the (mostly) generic pieces of crap i gotta tolerate when i go out and and am in a (rare) non hip hop / r+b mood...

Agreed... ...with Prince's music in the hands of producers/remixers by the likes of Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig ...I think it would do wonders and add more "soul" to House music because there isn't nearly enough of it, and it would be cool if there was more of that---more great songs, and not simply vocal samples tracked over a few beats... ( ...for example...) [This message was edited Wed Sep 18 7:09:21 PDT 2002 by BelleBeyond]
