JT...startin ish again? TT Torrez on Power 99 or was it 100.3 da beat(w/e) said that Justin Timberlake recently came at Prince at a concert saying that the "purple one" was a good critic but a bad charter...
This may just be a rumor but I sure nuff believe it...he came at Prince in Timbaland's song,so y not at a concert full of people who only know Prince from the Superbowl? Im glad TT spoke up and kept it real saying that he really needed 2 slow his roll...cuz he do,thats the only reason hes a good charter...by tryna come at people like Prince. And dude didnt even have the nerve 2 say Prince's name..."the purple one" tho

Not surprised at all. [Edited 4/9/07 19:38pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

We all know this whining asshole is obsessed with Prince. You hear it in his music but we also know his soul-less pop is what is hip these days. Doesn't that tell you something. Todays kids hear Justins music for its beat which he didn't create, his lyric are sad and lack imagination. Personally the song on his album that most imitates Prince's style...SUCKS.. Prince need not be bothered with the Justins of the world. We know TimberFAKE'S days are numbered...musically anyway. side note..I heard Justin seriously wanted to be R&B when he went solo and was tryin real hard not to be pop lol and R&B has totally embraced Robin Thicke who doesn't want to be put in any category....strange but true

Well, what JT says is true. From a pure sales perspective Prince in 2006/7 isn't selling as much as JT in 2006/7, BUT keep in Prince was Justin's age when he recorded Purple Rain, which outsold "FutureSex" by fathoms and is still cited as one of the most influential albums of all time.
Now, comparing apples to apples, let's see how many units JT will be moving in when he's 48, if he's even still around in the biz. I made this point before in another thread, but I'll say it again, Prince can still perform songs from the "Purple Rain" album 22 years after its release and get a crowd hyped up. There's not a single song on "FutureSex" that will get much of a reaction 22 years from now. Let's see JT play "SexyBack" at the Superbowl in 2029, and see if the crowd joins him in unison the way they did Prince when he performed "Purple Rain". And the fact is, today's music climate isn't kind to its geniuses. Joni Mitchell was never a "good charter". Nina Simone never topped the Hot 100. The likes of Sufjan Stevens and Ani DiFranco aren't household names--even though they put out alubms that are better than anything by Pussycat Dolls, for example. Don't forget about the acts that outsold Prince's offerings in the early '90s. Vanilla Ice's "To the Extreme" sold better than Prince's offering of the same year--as did albums from the likes of MC Hammer, Color Me Badd, and Ace of Base. And where are all these acts now? "Charting" may be good for short-term success, but genius ensures longevity. [Edited 4/9/07 20:02pm] "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Well, if the comment from Kinderlake is true, it doesn't surprise me. Some of the comments I've read and heard him say in interviews were very much in line with the comment about Prince. Maybe he took Prince's "sexy never left comment" personally and still holds a grudge and is trying to have the last swipe--even though I don't think Prince's comment was meant as personal attack on JT. It was just Prince being coy. When "FutureSex" came out, people were trashing JT all over the org. I bought the CD and thought it was a nice piece of heavily produced fluff pop. I didn't think JT deserved the trashing he's gotten from folks on the org, but now JT's just getting on my damn nerves. He needs to be stopped. The way I see it...
Prince's comment must have been the damn truth because only the truth could have hurt Timberfake's itty bitty wittle feelings bad enough to have him still going on about it. Prince hasn't given that little twit a second thought and he shouldn't! JT and the rest of the crap peddlers of the music industry will all be distant memories soon enough. Not soon enough for me but soon enough none the less!

I was listening to Emancipation and "Face Down" is appropriate for JT!! Somebody once told him that he wouldn't take Prince through the ringer Let him go down as a washed up singer Ain't that a bitch? Thinkin' all along that he wanted 2 be rich Never respected the root of all evil and he still don't 2 this day, huh Bury him face down, let the motherfuckers kiss a ass, OK?

First, I don't think JT or Timberland were haters. I think they looked up to P- pretty obvious from the musical bites they've taken from P and using former P band members in JT's tour. But I believe they are insecure in their talents when compared to P and misconstrued P's comments big time.
We all know how prince is when discussing current talents- and his history has been to challenge people to be better. Prince telling Timberland that he ain't there yet- to me- is a form of respect. Jimmy Jam told a famous story once when trying to describe what Prince meant to them...he said they were practicing for the tour and Prince walked in- expecting to be complimented on how good they sounded. Instead Prince asked Jimmy why he wasn't playing with both hands- Jimmy replied there's no part for that hand. Prince said make one up. prince later returned and Jimmy had made up a part for the other hand and it sounded hot...prince asks him why he wasn't singing...again Jimmy indicates that there wasn't a signing part in the song....Prince tells him to make one up- you gotta be better that the album version...prince returns and he slamming now but Prince just asks him why he wasn't dancing. Jimmy J. says forget it, I gotta play with both hands, sing and dance at the same time! A couple of HARD days of practicing Jam says he could do that in his sleep And that is what P did for them time and again... To me Prince's challenge was respect- sort of a yeah I know you (not meaning I'm aware but I know you're good) but you can be better.. As far a the sexy back comment- again his recognition is a form of respect and the challenge back is playful and JT should be honored because he is a blip on the screen of the musical landscape compared to P.

The problem isn't him saying something that may be untrue, it is whether or not he has overstepped his bounds by saying those things publicly about Prince. I'm not going to sweat JT's or Timbaland's comments because I KNOW the truth. Prince will take both of em on stage and bust their asses in front of a packed house on any given night! They know it too but JT has to save face in the wake of P's comments about people like him and Timbaland. At the end of the day it is proven that P doesn't care how he charts and neither does his die hard fans so in that we concede that JT is being truthful but there is still no substantial matter in his statement.
