I dont care to win awards....

I have noticed that the last few times P has won an award he has
placed the statue or award on the ground and then he would begin speaking.
Anyone else notice that. Does he do this on purpose to convey that awards
are not important? He did it when he got the naacp award last year and this year....I dont mind him doing it..I was just wondering if anyone else noticed
this...

notice he doesn't have a list of people to thank, etc.

Actually...

At the Minnesota Music Awards years ago, he said something to the effect that, "I once sang 'I don't care to win awards,' but back then nobody was offering me any" and went on with a very heartfelt thank you.

I think he just prefers not to hold it when he's speaking and thinks the floor is the most stable place to put it.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

very true.

I don't think he really cares about awards as much as the fact he can still make music that people want to hear.

I think he does care. I just believe he wants to appear humbled. Which is cool, I respect that. Alotta people do that. Sometimes, I myself, do that. cool I do believe tho, that it freeks him out to be standing in front a large award audience and have to strictly talk and not count off his band thereafter. nod He's told us a thousand times he'd "rather play"!

Maybe he's really weak in the arms.

I'm sure he appreciates winning, but he knows they don't really mean anything.

yeah, he seems like the type of guy that doesn't put too much stock in material possessions.

I was thinking along those same lines.
I thought that maybe it was because,
due of his "stature",
the floor is so close to him,
that there's very little difference between the floor & the podium. confused

Some artists (like Marlon Brando) don't see art as a competition either. So sure it's nice to be recognized, but it doesn't really mean you win. It's not a race.

Not to be in anyway insulting re: his height- but I almost agree. I've thought it's not to avoid blocking the camera, but just because some of those awards, when placed on the podium, would be about the same height as his head.

I also think this has something to do with it as well...wouldn't want to risk knocking it over while speaking. Plus then its in all the pictures.

Not to get off topic, but as a side note...He once stated Wendy has the Oscar. Does anyone think she still does or do you think she gave it back after the split? just curious.... biggrin

I think he does that so that he doesn't drop it. A lot of the time, when people get their awards, they always say how heavy it is.

I've actually held a Grammy and an American Music Award in my hands. (I'm related through marriage to the late, great Edward Patton of Gladys Knight and The Pips. He was one of The Pips for those that don't know and shame on you for not knowing that!) no no no!

They are not that heavy! I think Prince does it because he knows it makes a statement.

http://princetext.tripod....one85.html
"Downstairs from the living room is a narrow little workroom with recording equipment and a table holding several notebooks. "Here's where I recorded all of 1999," says Prince, "all right in this room." On a low table in the corner are three Grammys. "Wendy," says Prince, "has got the Academy Award.""

I've often wondered if she gave it back to him when they left....

The first time I noticed that he placed an award on the ground was in 1998. He originally had it on the podium but it blocked his whole head. He then put it on the ground, spoke, picked it up and left. Since then he's done it several times. I don't think he doesn't care. He's actually quite appreciative when people compliment or appreciate his music.
Remember when u told me that love was touching souls?
Well, surely u touched mine. O{+>
