girls 1st...girls 1st..Lovesexy is the bomb this albumn is the last of the great Prince 80s records
Its such a personal, spiritual, artistic, funky, poppy, rock laden mess...its just an incredible peice of work The juke joint funk of Eye Know (Outkast eat your heart out)...the spoken segue and then No! that funky electric schzoid pop of Alphabet Street..but no lets go middle eastern on a brotha. The vibe of Glam Slam is so crazy...here you have the arabic vibe on this thunderous drum beat held together with pop strings...this song is nearly sabatoged by one of the corniest chorus' we have heard from P (and hes had many). The strings after that that lead perfectly in Annestasia, Save me Jesus I've been a fool! Who says 00's Prince is too preachy! Dance On is a bit cartoonish to me but fits well in the concept of the record and honestly works well as a lead in to the ridiculously funky Lovesexy. The horns at the begining of Lovesexy (da dada dadaaaa da dada daaadadaaada) remind me of when a King enters a room or like Prince is annoucing something is coming! "Ewww pretty little whip...you got me drippin..." Unbelievable funk laden song...that some how some way just works perfectly into When 2 R in Luv. If you guys actually believe that W2RIL was actaully recorded for the Black albumn rather than Lovesexy then I have some land to sell you in East Germany. I Wish U Heaven...this light fluttery esoteric song layered over this ridiculously heavy drum beat...Its insane. Finally ending with Positivity..have you had your plus sign today. Honestly the only trhing about this albumn I don't love is the background vocals. Man Wendy & Lisa would have been a nice touch...but thats being picky What a great, fantastic trip down memory lane I had today..blasting that disc in my car Of Ps concept experimental records this and Parade are my favorites...It is mind blowing to me that this dude produced 1999, Purple Rain, ARTWID, Parade, Sign and Lovesexy all in a row. Anything before or after those records was hit or miss. That stretch from 1982-1989 is unmatched All I can say is Wow!!! [Edited 4/6/07 16:05pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

Such a fun album, all-around. It was fun reading your comments too. My 2nd fav Prince album, behind 1999 which is also full of ear candy.

Love the album, only problem of it being one track. I read some where here there is a way to make it into several tracks.

I totally agree with the origanator of this thread, this era 84-88 will always be my favorite, for all the reasons listed above and more.

[Edited 4/6/07 16:05pm] Alex, don't forget to throw the Black Album into that era. It came right after SOTT, and before Lovesexy. TRULY an amazing period for the man. Thanks for this post... it reminded me of how much I loved this Album. I was 17, and had just about played the hell outta SOTT, and Lovesexy was the perfect "light and ethereal" CD to follow it. Even the opening where Prince says... "The reason why my voice is so clear, is 'cause there's no smack... in my brain... Hundalasilia!! LOL" I LOVE SOTT. It's arguably my favorite Prince CD... but when Lovesexy came along, I was ready for something new and refreshing. It was the perfect compliment to SOTT. Say what you want, but Sign was very dark and heavy musically in some areas (It, Dorothy Parker, The Cross, Sign o'The Times, If I was...) bass and drum machines, etc. Lovesexy was fresh and Heavenly. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that it wasn't tracked. VERY nice CD. The man is an artist in every sense of the world. The greatest our generation has EVER seen, bar none. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Boni had an amazing voice! Cat... well she obviously wasn't there for her musical contributions But yeah, Lovesexy is fanfuckingtastic. It's odd. Generally I hate it when Prince over-produces stuff... you know, instead of just letting the instruments and vocals do the talking, he sometimes goes crazy adding stupid sound effects etc to hammer home his lyrics for the chronically stupid (example: in TMBGITW, the sound of water dripping or a clock ticking etc... renders that song completely unlistenable to my ears). Despite this though, despite all the crazy studio tinkering on Lovesexy, it still remains one of my favourite Prince albums.

1999 is brilliant POP...It was Prices 1st Disc that brilliant from start to finish. Experimental electro funk, rock anthems, funk punk r/b, bottom heavy pop sing alongs and of course the seduction ballad It is absurd hat he did 1999 and Purple Rain back to back.... They equal in POP power as Michaels Off the Wall adn Thriller back to back efforts...just very different. Prince kicked that door open...I will not be denied and you will not ignore me...then once they loved him and he was adored, he changed direction The dude was simply brilliant during this period...and he still is every bit as brilliant of a live performer Dance... Let me see you dance
