What's your fav album between For you and Prince ?

Prince by a mile. "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad", "Bambi", "Sexy Dancer", "Its Gonna Be Lonely","I Feel For You". That LP is arguably Prince's best IMO.

The album titled "Prince" is one of,if not the most underrated album Prince has ever made in my opinion.

I know it will be an extremely un-popular choice but I enjoy For You so much more than "Prince". Prince was aiming for a hit more than anything else with "Prince" and it shows, imo.

For you is more interesting artistically and varied. And it sounds better (I also feel he din't play all the instruments on this one). The slow jams are better.

Prince

Prince! This album is one of my all time favorites! And I loved that period in his career too...he was such a sexy boi!

Alltough the production sounds very 'seventies' nowadays and he doesn't really have found his own style or sound with it, Prince is much better then For You IMO.

Some of the playing on For You is impressive, especially for such a young artist recording his first album, but that what album lacks in the first place is memorable melodies and strong songwriting.
Apart from Soft and Wet and Just as long as were together, For You misses songs that really 'stick' with you, most other songs are almost forgettable in a way.
What also doesnt help is that you can clearly hear that Prince have worked TOO long on the album, his perfectionism leading to needless overproduction.

Prince has admitted in interviews that when it comes to recording his second album Prince, he wanted to make a 'hit record'. Because the recording process for For You was way longer then planned, that record was so expensive to make, that Prince was in debt with his recording company.
By recording 'Prince' very fast (in a few weeks) and by trying to write more commercialy appealing songs he tried to get rid of this finanicial debt.
The good thing about this is that Prince doesnt turn into overproduction, like he did on For You, and that he also writes more catchy, directly appealing songs for Prince.
The result, a big step forward for his music: IMO this especially pay off on I want to be your lover, Why you wanna treat me so bad and I feel for you, which i consider early classics.

I absolutly both. But i listen 2 For You more bcuz i have it on cd . I have Prince on album and i don't get a chance listen 2 my record player that much. All in All i think there both !GROOVY!

'For You' is alright,but it lacks fire.It's too subdued.
