Which songs lift u up when ur feeling down? I figure that I'll revive this topic, considering how much tragedy is in the world today. Not only with the natural world, but with the VA Tech massacre.

I completely agree with those... Gold's always been there for me when I needed it. I'd like to add a few more. Billy Jack & 319 (which u already mentioned) from TGE... In the case of my old favorite, Jesse McCartney, his song "Because you live" is definitely a good one for me. Nearly everything off TGE is uplifting (of course, I haven't shut up about it since I realized how much I liked it)... Yeah, I own their Greatest Hits CD, but honestly, a lot of their best songs weren't included (and two of the songs that made the cut weren't among my favorites). Gold's video has such an unusual quality to it. Maybe it's the camera or something, but I barely think of Prince as Prince in the video... he seems like a completely different person... like he's enlightened or different somehow. I've yet to touch on how/why I see him so differently, but I guess it's the magic of the song as well as how it came to be my favorite & soul tattoo. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Last week, I'd listen to Purple Rain and thought it sounded so sad (at least from Prince's POV), so almost always, I have to play
I Would Die 4 U afterwards to bring myself out of the dumps he put me in with the sadness in his tone throughout the song. It sure is a good thing that 90% of his music is upbeat & happy (at least of what I've heard, there are only a handful of sad songs he's written that I've heard). can't argue with that. Gold's awesome. More and more, I've got a feeling that Prince really wants to write happy pieces with a positive message atttached to them. I saw one appearance on the Musicology tour when he started doing "Money Don't Matter 2night" and he changed songs since he felt "there's too much trouble in the world today" to bring the whole morale of the audience down. Maybe he only writes sad songs when he really feels that he needs to get something off his chest or he wants to send a powerful message to his listeners.
