Mayte recently said in an article that she and Prince kinda grew apart. When they were on Oprah and said their "family exists" (referring to their deceased child), it was their way of grieving. However, the grief had overtaken them, and eventually they grew apart. It happens. Couples often divorce after a child's death. The stress is too much for some people. I tend to agree that explanation is the most logical. Prince is controlling, but I think Mayte is the one person (outside of Susannah) that he had some deeper feeling for. It's too bad. But Mayte mentioned that they are still on good terms, not bitter ones. Even through a child dying, their divorce doesn't signal mutual animosity. It's a bonding experience in some way, despite the divorce. I remember Prince saying when they annulled their marriage that "Mayte is doing her thing, and I'm doing mine, and it's all cool." That was a better indication of their feelings overall opposed to the harshness we're heard rumored about Mani's split w/ him, or the explosive relationship he had w/ Vanity, and the constant fighting (near the end) w/ Susannah. There was some rumor that she cheated on him (if "tangerine" is an indication of a true song), but I've never heard any more about that. | |
