Ooops... Anyways...
These two sugar sweet songs are my Vault favorites. I love the caribbean flair (or whatever I should call it) on She Spoke 2 Me and Extraordinary is simply beautiful. Superb musical arrangements. They just make me want to romance.... on a hot summer night surrounded by lit candles and exotic vegetation...

A lot of great songs on that album. My favs are "When The Lights Go Down," "Old Friends 4 Sale," "It's About That Walk," and "Then There's Lonely" -- probably in that order. I like most of the others too.

That's really not an objectionable album at all... well, I do wish My Little Pill wasn't on there. That just seems so very odd of a choice to include.

I love that whole album, a lot of people don't tho.

Those songs are great, esp. Spoke To Me which is definately the best song on that album. Even on P's worst (whichever you believe are his worst) albums, there's always a couple of gems.

The album was a quite pleasant surprise. I have read so much about The Vault here that I didn't know what to expect of it so I was glad when I actually liked what I heard. Since I've only had the album for a couple of days I'm sure that some of the songs I'm not too crazy about will grow on me. Feels like it's one of those records which need time. "My Little Pill" just makes me scratch me head right now.
As united1878 already pointed out, even on Prince's worse albums there are always a few brilliant tunes. That's why I never worry about wasting my money because I always know that there will be AT LEAST one song that will move me and make up for the eventual not so good ones. . I think he knows how to cater to his fans' taste and that's why even when he's being self indulgent with his music and trying to stretch out... he puts one or two songs on there he knows his hardcore fanbase will like.

That's a nice idea in theory but the reality of it is that his hard core fans don't agree on which songs are the best on any given release. It's like that whole debate about what would the best single disc version of Emancipation look like...

That's a nice idea in theory but the reality of it is that his hard core fans don't agree on which songs are the best on any given release. It's like that whole debate about what would the best single disc version of Emancipation look like... I didn't get into specifics about which songs most fans agree on. Of course nobody's fans agree on everything! Maybe this will paint a picture for you... Did u notice that he actually played Extraordiary on the ONA tour? Its on the ONA live release? That's because even though The Vault wasn't even promoted as a release, Extraordinary became a fan favorite. Not every fan likes it but many do! There are countless others that were never released as singles, the fans just made them cult classics. I'm not saying we agree on every song but there are many albums that fans don't consider his best but there are one or two songs on it they are sure to love. For instance there was a thread on here not too long ago about the song "When U Love Somebody" off the NPS album. Although there are many hardcore fans that think NPS is sonic trash, I was still amazed to find so many who like me loved that song in particular. It happens all the time on these threads so I don't know why you got the idea I was somehow saying we all agree on which song it is that makes an otherwise unliked album salvageable. P is in touch with his fans and he knows what pleases many of us. Whether or not he will focus one entire album with this in mind is highly unlikely. But if he wants to indulge himself in new material and new directions he knows how to please at the same time. Hence, Pop Life is on ATWIAD. Kiss is on Parade. Musicology has Reflection. When 2 R In Love is on Lovesexy. Even putting Do Me Baby is on Controversy. Listen closely because it is calculated! As P himself even put it... You never would have drank my coffee if I hadn't served you Cream.... [Edited 4/9/07 8:01am] [Edited 4/9/07 8:06am]

This is a fantastic album. It includes my all time favourite 5 women. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

This is such a great album! I know that the musical style is not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. She Spoke to Me is so smooth and hip. Good choices Venus. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

That's all very nice and speculative but it doesn't really have any proof in real life on many of those counts. There really is, generally, no consensus half the time. To pull this back around to the original comment that started it all... Yes, there usually is at least one song on each album that really connects with each fan, it just doesn't happen to be the same song. For example, the song that might save Musicology for YOU is undoubtedly different than the one I prefer.

I said that there will be a song many fans agree on hence the appreciation for songs like Extraordinary and even Joy in Repetition! Many fans I know don't like anything pertaining to Graffiti Bridge, but P knows to play Joy in Rep if he wants to see his fans go crazy! Listen u can disagree if u like and thats fine but I just didn't come on here and state what I said because I pulled it out of the friggin air. I have what I believe is proof of my theory right here in these threads on the org. I never said all fans agree on exactly which song does it for them, I said P knows how to give his fans what they want and sometimes he sprinkles his albums with songs thay keep his fans at bay while he ventures off and explores new ideas. Please do me a favor and stop acting like u don't know what I mean. Now it seems that u r just nitpicking just to be disagreeable and in that I concede u will probably never admit u get my point! Hell there is a thread on this board right now saying Chaos and Disorder is a turd. At this same time there is a thread discussing Dinner with Delores with people on it saying how much they like it. It is in my opinion, which is backed up with study of discussions on here and other P sites, that it is calculated.

She Spoke 2 Me and 5 Woman are my picks. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

She Spoke 2 Me, in my opinion is a nice carribbean jazzy tune which I think should be played on some of the jazz stations. My father, who is not a P fan even digs this song. "I don't make the rules. I just play"

I understand what you mean, I just don't agree it's that cut and dried. Prince can't always pick what will make his fans happy any more than he can always pick a hit single. JIR is popular in concert after the fact but there's nothing to support the idea that he placed it on GB because he knew his fans would like it beforehand, certainly nothing based on fan reaction in forums.

I didn't say P placed songs on his albums because of fan reaction in forums I said I based my assertion that P is calculating due to the reactions I read in the forums. It is my belief that Prince could very well target a certain core of his audience to please if he wanted he showed this with Sott which had something for virtually everyone on it. Prince has indicated that he thinks all of his music is good but I don't think he's surprised when his fans gravitate to a couple of songs in particular.
