Here;s the deal. I thought ONA was absolutely gorgeous! everyone else did too, but now most people will tell you they hate it. I don't know why. As for the rest of the club benefits, it is soon to say if all of those will come through. if they do, well definitely join, if not, then I don't know. Personally I thik it is worth tthe risk,

Just my opinion.

I only liked the first four songs on ONA, the rest of te CD was lousy, not to mention short.

Yes I did get good seats (11th row) at the ONA show, as well as into the rehersal, which was a blast, but I also paid $125 per person in addition to the membership fees. This was back when you logged onto ticket master with a password NPGMC gave you, so their order processing was more reliable and stable than the NPMC site appears to be.

In the past, when Ive purchased Prince tickets there were always expensive seats available for around $100-150 bucks, so I dont feel I have the club necessarily to thank for that. The concert benefit I got from joining was basically the rehersal, which in many cases has been a mini-concert in itself, lol. It was alot of fun.

If you're really digging Prince's new direction and you don't mind the prolonged growing pains of the club, you'll probabbly enjoy year 2.

What you might want to consider, if hes not touring near you, is just to wait it out a little longer to see if the remaining CDs are any good.

There does seem to be a lot of bashing of ONA going on, but I like it. I think the thing with it, is that people expect it to be an album to blow them away, which it isn't. It does do exactly what it says on the tin though, it is a piano and vocal album. Taking this into account, it does sound a little samey, in as much that all the tracks feature a piano and Prince. I think that any of the tracks could be taken off and placed on a more traditional album and people would be happy with them as part of a more varied whole.

Having said all that, it isn't worth the $100 alone. I would take Tom's advice and wait and see what happens with the rest of the CD's.

i think the ONA collection is a nice change in direction from the funk and jazz influenced material he's been working on. Not that i don't dig that as well, but we all know Prince tends to get stuck on a certain groove for a while. The best thing about ONA is the length...it is a pretty quick listen (although no shorter than the early albums like dirty mind and controversy) and can be mixed onto a mix tape or cd very nicely! There is always some shadiness when dealing with Prince, and his music club is no exception...join with caution is what i can say to you..but join, nonetheless!

I really love the ONA cd, it's very intimate and I am truly glad I have it wink
being an NPGMC member is somewhat rewarding, new cd's, preference seating and cool merchandise ( Xenophobia Candle anybody lol )

Anyways I'm glad i stuck with the NPGMC, else I would've missed cool downloads last year and some good music this year (though I do think it's time 2 send out the next cd...

Peace

well you need to choose wisely-you could be happy-like those fams who got the ona cd & great concerts, tickets, seating, soundchecks, aftershows & ect.OR you could end up like me -who has so far spent $100 for 1 cd(ona cd) & that's it! no concerts, soundchecks, aftershows & ect. in my part of the USA & God only (certainly not NPGMC) knows when or what remaining cd's i MIGHT get for the rest of my year's membership!so choose wisely!
