Just listened to Emancipation for the first time in years

When Emancipation first came out I was so Excited to get 3 CD's worth of new Prince. Back then I didn't have the internet at home and only knew it was coming out about 3 weeks before the release and on the day I bought it I didn't even know the tracklist and the only song I had heard was Betcha By Golly Wow, which I was very disapointed with but this didn't stop my excitement. On first listen I loved it and then as the days and weeks went on I started to feel differently about, It was like I was trying to like some of the songs and after a couple of months I gave up on it. I had a tape with an hours worth of my favorite songs that I had in my car for a couple of years that I played from time to time but It was for me the first Prince album I neglected after just a few listens.

Well today I've spent working in my garden and so I thought I've got the time so I'll listen to it. So I put it on my Ipod and I've throughly enjoyed it. I'm not going to declare it a classic but a number of songs I really didn't care for much jumped out at me.

From disc one, which I always thought was the weakest and I still hold that view, there was Get Yo Groove On, Courtin Time And Mr Happy and most surprisngly Betcha By Golly Wow, great vocals, I think the video made me hate this song but now I think it's OK.

I still dislike White Mansion, It's just sounds so dull, no real melody and a real plodding song.

From Disc two Soul Sanctuary, Curious Child and Saviour. Saviour is Magnificent.

From Disc Three which was always my favorite but I hated Da Da Da, but Today I've got to admit I really enjoyed it same goes for The Love We Make.

.

It is full of good songs, I think the problem before was I couldn't believe there where no really great songs on it and so I dismissed it.
