The contradiction of no longer playing "1999" live Just something that has been bugging me for a while...
Prince no longer plays the song "1999" in concert because he believes that "there's no need to play it anymore - it's time has come and gone" (or words to that effect)... But Prince has also said he doesn't believe in time. So why not continue playing "1999"? If you don't believe in time, then the year 1999 could be anytime you want it to! OK. Maybe he just doesn't believe labelling time at all. If so, why would he make this comment about the devil: "U been here since 1914, and now U gotta go" (from The Rainbow Children, 2001 - two years after deciding not to play "1999"). I guess what I'm saying is that I wish he would just forget all this nonsense and just play the damn song again

Didn't stop him from playing part of it during the Super Bowl. Don't read too much into anything he says. (To quote Prince: "Say one thing, do another, it's time we chill on that.") Just saying that he's been announcing he's doing or not doing things for years and then the opposite happens shortly after. It's part of the fun of being a Prince fan! Just go with it. | |

^Yeah, I understand that, but it's just annoying that he's blacklisted such a great song  .
