Come -- 11 min classic While I wait for new music -- I just listened to "Come" -- what an amazingly complex, melodic, and beautiful song!! so many layers, 11 minutes of brilliance!! And having the explicit lyrics mixed with such beautiful musical layers embodies what prince is about.
I just heard the "Come" outtake w/ the synthesizers and bass guitar and neat little rap in the middle: "Maybe you should wrap your legs for a while, see if I can make you smile, I do my very best to get you in the room, I do my very best to get you in the mood, I cry for you to take me underneath the table and (shlooop)... the time has come for me to get RUDE" WOW -- he transformed the song into a funk classic. amazing!!

I think the slurping noises and lazy non-artistic lyrics are a Prince lowlight. It's almost a parody of Prince's sexual side which I always assumed was done on purpose as a slap at Warner Brothers. It's like bad, going-through-the-motions sex. The music is cool though.

I love the stripped down synthy version from The Beautiful Experience TV show, as opposed to the horns-heavy version from Come....

I was playing this the other day. The horns on this track are among the best P. has ever arranged. Yes, the sexual lyrics aren't fantastic (going by the words, he seems remarkably conservative and unoutrageous in his methods, for the rampant sex innovator he styled himself as ). But the 'Fender Jazz mashed potato fuzztone' line is one of his immortal lyrics to me .
I also love the 'Spiritual Revolution' version - cool, P techno-funk. I'm not sure what other versions there are, but I think there's at least one more. 'Pheromone', from the same album is a great one too, musically, and the words are ... interesting. [Edited 3/30/07 12:53pm]

11 minutes of XXX rated funk-tabulous-ness. Prince’s tribute to the female orgasm and it is such a wonderful thing. Lay back and let the groove stimulate you.

I always refer to this song as his "Ode to Oral." [Edited 3/30/07 14:05pm] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Come is an amazing song. The artistry and the musical composition of that song are... in my opinion... phenomenal. He's on the TOP of his game vocally in this masterpiece... YES... MASTERPIECE.
It's a tremendous song, and I used to listen to it regulary. I still pop it in when I'm feelin' frisky and confident. lol BUT... with that being said... PRINCE IS SICK! The man is disturbed! lol I say that because he gets WAY TOO DAMNED EXCITED singin' about his honey's COME! There's one part where his vocals dissolve into screeches, as he sings... Cooommeee... no more will you cry... COMMMEEEE!!! yeahhh yeeeaaaaahhhhh YEeeEAAaaaAHHhhhHHhhhHHHaaaaH!!!!! The man must be all lost in the ill na na!!!! For someone to go all off screechin' and screamin' YEeeEAAaaaAHHhhhHHhhhHHHaaaaH... that must have been one hell of a CLIMAX!!! lol The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

"Dark" is the classic jam off the Come album. It hits the perfect tone for the themes of the song. I love the pleading, angry, dark, cynical, begging and insecure Prince songs. This version is so much better than the Crystal Ball version.

Pun intended. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I like the alternate version, I believe it may be included in The Beautiful Experience thingy that came on tv back in '94 or '95. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

To me, it was a modern soulful Darling Nikki, or Tamborine or... Lovesexy. BUT... the man is just sick! lol The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I dig the aural effect in the middle of the track, where Prince whispers in your left ear, then moves to your right -- that's when your are wearing your cans (headphones).
It's so cool. It's just as stimulating when you are listening to the Come jazz track in your ride he whispers in one speaker to the other side. Pretty sweet. I do also dig the "early" Come version on Prince's "Glam Slam Ulysses" stage show, which ended up on "the BEAUTIFUL xperience."

The ending - or the part I refer to as the 'rapture' or the actual orgasm (exactly at 9:00 - lasting until 10:50) is among the greatest parts of any Prince song.
Lengthy at eleven minutes - it has to be that long to make the reward of the end that much better and "nuttier" - if I may. You can feel the building explosion. I thought maybe I was the only person who had the patience to really feel this song. Glad to see others who dig it.
