Lovesexy I bought the Lovesexy album yesterday and I must say that it is my LEAST favorite prince record of all time.I tried to like it really I did but I find every song besides Alphabet Street unbearable to listen to.
What is your opinion of this album?

What is your opinion of this album? I was going to buy it online the other day, until I listened to the songs on the sample song list....I feel like such a horrible ungrateful fan for feeling that way...maybe it is a grower. I did not care for Musicology at first, now I love it! I felt like I was cheating on Prince as a fan for not liking the songs Maybe I will order it, get a used copy or something.....

we're in the minority on not Loving Lovesexy....
I was afraid to admit it for years. I don't find it unbearable to listen to but it is my least favorite album. It has grown on me over the years though. Give it another listen in a year or 2 or try listening to it with headphones. Using headphones has completely changed my opinion of a few albums in the past. I'd choose the black album over lovesexy anyday. "not a fan" yeah...ok

Terrific Album.
LoveSexy suffers from expectations. When I first bought it, I was hoping for "Sign of The Times, pt. 2". I had heard Good Love and a couple of "Camille" tracks and thought that LoveSexy would follow that same path, but it didn't. Ironically, the only track I don't like is "Alphabet st." becuase of that awful rap at the end. If the song had been the same as the condense single that was released, LoveSexy would have been a no-skip CD for me (yes, I got a tracked version ). Anna Stesia, I wish U heaven, Dance On, and When 2 R In Love are great little songs--they need to be heard with headphones and played loud. If Prince ever releases a remastered version of this album I will jizz my pants.

I liked it but didn't love it at first. He did alot of gear shifting and that strains the ear a bit, but after a few listening you start to "understand" the tune and actually become "tuned" to it, and it goes from odd to infectious. Not a perfect album, but a great little album. Certainly daring in lieu of market and industry forces at the time.

What is your opinion of this album? U have 2 listen 2 it atleast a dozen times...especially 'eye no' the song has layers of funk as does the title track... P's best albums have to be digested over time and repitition.... Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

OK - since we are on the topic... in the song Positivity where P goes into his "rap" does anyone else think it sounds like he is chewing gum??
Call me crazy but this sounds sexy (no matter what it is!) and drives me crazy everytime!!!

It is one of my favorite Prince albums from the very first listen. But I'm accused of having bad taste all the time so who knows!

I am not a big fan of Lovesexy and ive listened to it every imaginable way! high as a kite! whilst draining the bag! on a club sound system! through headphones! EVERYWAY!!!!!
It has some delicious moments but as a whole i dont think its his best. The tour worked far better, but prince live is always another level. I think it has been given a god-like appreciation. All that 'lovesexy saved my life'! nonsense 'YOU' saved yourself. Im sure people only say this coz Prince said he got letters saying it. As if he fuckin read 'em, if indeed they existed at all. give me Parade, 1999, SOTT, Dirtymind, PR way before Lovesexy. on a positive though - that was a killer live show wasnt it? man.

What is your opinion of this album? It definitely wasn't one of his best, but it was far from his worst. I Know, Lovesexy, When Two Are In Love, Dance On, I Wish You Heaven and Positivity are classics. Alphabet Street was one of my least favorite tracks on the album but it was still bearable. Give the album another shot before taking such a strong position against it.

One of my favourite albums, without a doubt.
Prince was obviously having fun tinkering around in the studio, so it sure does sound a tad over-produced in parts. That said, it's still a really cohesive album with some great songs. In fact I can't think of a single bad song!

I remember buying it used upon recommendation of my (then) boyfriend. I was still a casual fan and only knew Alphabet St. I didn't hate it but I wasn't really sold on it either. I put it away and didn't listen to it again for awhile--probably after lurking on here for awhile and reading the background of how/when it was created prompted me to give it another try.
I love it! It is one of my top 5 Prince albums. Dance On, which I hated at first is now one of my favorites. I'm not religious at all, but even the "love is god" stuff doesn't bother me. The music is so beautiful and the lyrics to I Wish U Heaven, Postivitiy, Dance On, Lovesexy are some of my favorites. Don't give up on it. And like Shorty said, listen to it with headphones...I listen to it about once a week and I am always hearing new layers and cool things each time. . [Edited 4/3/07 9:07am]

It's a truly great album. Took awhile to grow on me, since I'm an atheist and all but...
You gotta give it a second spin, you'll learn to love it It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

that's how it is with most new music from prince for me....at first listen I'm like...ehhh..it's ok (or sometimes I don't like it at all) but after a few years on the shelf I listen again and love it. I'm hopefully about to do that with RAVE. I think it has to do with expectations....I have my own expectations when an album comes out and when it's not what I thought it would be I'm not really into it...but after a few years I forget about what I thought it was gonna sound like and it's all brand new again. I always thought it was because I didn't really discover Prince (in a big way) until around 1992ish so I had that whole back catalogue to go through...and I loved every single album. P's music is like fine wine to me I guess...it's not as good fresh as it is aged. I suppose it could be like cheese in that sense too. "not a fan" yeah...ok
