Grateful Dead

Do Prince fans remind you of Grateful Dead fans?

I've smoked tons of weed at Prince concerts. Does that help?

Definitely. I have many Deadheads (who are now String Cheeseheads and general jam band followers) in my circle of friends and the similarities are pretty astounding. Both groups think nothing of traveling huge distances for shows. Both run primarily on rumors. lol Many people in each group have elaborate rituals for shows (where they like to be in the venue, how long before the shows they start to congregate, etc).

It's uncanny, really.

I can answer this... I am both a Huge Deadhead and a Huge fan of Prince...

I've seen the dead about 40 times and Prince (including aftershows) about 25...

The answer is No... they are not alike...

But like Prince says: "i've got two sides, and they're both friends"

Major differences in the way they deliver(ed) music... Jerry : for Free
and Prince : nothin but $

I wish P and the band were more like the dead in that, EVERY show was different, you could see 3-4 shows in a row and NOT hear the same song twice...
We all know, unless it's an aftershow, you know what your gonna get...

Otherwise, I love Prince regardless and will still sit thru 3 night at MSG with the same setlist... I would be doing the same thing for the Dead if Jerry were still alive... NO DOUBT!

I agree with what you've said. But the question is whether the fans are alike -- not whether Prince and the Dead are alike.

The "Fans" as in their dedication to the music? Their Obsession with hearing every note? Yea... not all of us behave this way, but I know I do...

Myipod is almost full with 75% dead bootlegs...

Go to Dead.net and see the Free weekly downloads... I can't imagine Prince EVER doing that...

He did that with NPGMC AHDIO, but only 1 per month with #12 being TRC... this is every WEEK and great quality too...

go to one dead show and see the HUGE difference

I had to walk out of a dead show after 5 minutes, fans are too weird but they REALLY make their housequake.

I like both the Dead & Prince (after Prince I've probably seen the Dead more than any other band), but I have to comment on these two points.

I've never seen a Dead show for free, and they were among the biggest moneymakers in music.

The setlist may have changed from show to show, but every dead show was exactly the same!

The Dead is actually very much like P-Funk, tho, in terms of concerts.
