Don't try and represent me as a fan in trying to express your point of view. Speak for yourself buddy. Prince needs to be himself on his albums. If he doesn't want to sing about sex, he shouldn't have to. If he started singing like that again right now, it probably wouldn't sound right. It would sound fake cause he would be trying to please all of us instead of himself and it would show through on the songs. Plus the album would suck and most of the people here on this site alone would bitch to high heaven about it. If you really want sex in Prince's music, go put on Dirty Mind again. Some of you fans are something else. rolleyes disbelief

lol lol

I agree with yer post wink

Thanks for agreeing with me before I edited the post. biggrin
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

And the dirty Prince ain't never coming back, and at his age, I doubt many want to see him get dirty again.

They wouldn't once they heard him sing like that again. Most of the people will complain and do everything but throw the kitchen sink at homeboy.

I second that. I'm sure Prince has a lot of that type of material in his vault, but the music is so outdated that I doubt he could bring it back and have it do well in terms of sales. If I wanna have "sex"y Prince, "Darling Nikki" is all I'll ever need. It's almost 2 much sometimes, it's intense, but at the same time, it makes me laugh so hard.
That's kind of in his past now, so I doubt he'd want to revisit the past. He's the type of guy that likes to think of the "here and now" opposed to looking back. I like his stuff now as well as his past material, so I really can't complain cuz there's a lot of good material there, no matter if it's sex-driven or not.

Exactly. Not everything even in "the good old days" was about sex and a lot of his hits weren't about sex like Sign O The Times and Purple Rain.

Prince once said in an interview that the people who only want him to play the old stuff shows says something about them not him (paraphrasing) & also mentioned that he's go so much music inside him that he can't just recycle his music. I say he is/can be just as naughty... he's just not as blatant with the usage of dirty words... but definitely just as sexy.

I also heard Prince say in a interview that alot of people want him 2 play his old stuff and do the things he use 2 do it would be great, but he said that they 4get that he's the one that did these things and if he goes back it wouldn't b as exciting 4 him. Prince is not the type of person 2 dwell on the past he's all about the now and everafter. What ever he chooses 2 do i'm all 4 it ya dig! cool

I think he's just as sexy, just doesn't use the same words as he did before. Instead of saying "sexy mother f**ker" he says "Imagine me on the tip of Ur tongue/If eye took a sip then eye would be on the run". I think its sexy to describe those kinds of things without resorting to foul language and whatnot. He let's you ure imagination b/c as he says "foreplay starts in the mind".
"So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..." whistle

Those who commented on the interviews, you're very right. I know only cuz I remember seeing those interviews myself... in fact I still watch them from time to time.

One time, I came up with a interpretation for the song "Gold".
Everybody wants to sell/tell what's already been sold/told
Basically, that could be used in this situation. People think that he should go back to basics because it's worked for him in the past. But he says it's already been done, so there's no need to do it again.
He doesn't dwell on the past and likes to focus on the future.
Another part of that song:
What's the use of money if you ain't gonna break the mold
Prince could very well be talking about himself here. He's rich in money & in music, so what's the use of it if he isn't going to break the very mold he made for himself. That's why he's always changing and evolving.

And yes, the "sex"iness still exists in his lyrics, but more cyptically and not as obivious b4. There's something poetic about that and I like it.

Less quasi-religious bullshit would be nice. I know, I know, that comes with the package... but I think it has held him back as an artist in recent years.

I don't.

imo.....his music is better when he writes how he wants to write it, this is why I love him so much, cuz he writes music for himself, not to please everyone else! Like new performers out today, just record what will sell, not what's in their hearts, like Prince.

I..and I know many of his other fans will continue to buy his music, no matter what it is as long as it's a true Prince creation.

At some point, he just decided it was more fun to fuck with peoples' minds.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Prince has never stopped talking about sex, though he did eliminate a few cuss words along the way he still seems to be finding ways to say the same things. However, I tend to think that being single again is going to bring about a few more songs with 'horn' in them - whether he releases them or not is another question.

I honestly think that depends on how you look at it. I think the more religious songs attracted different listeners & challanged the current listeners to open their minds to something different. Of course some folks were either put off or bored to tears but that's what I liked about Prince... one day I may feel like listening to something nasty & low down & dirty, or something upbeat & fun or something about God. And I can get that on ONE album instead of buying two or three different records. He knew/knows what he's doing. wink
