yea... Thriller is still awesome to listen to and to see the whole music video for.i think Thriller was like the longest music video ever (its close to 15 mins.). "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."

If Purple Rain had come out first, there would be no argument. For me, it's obviously Purple Rain over Thriller.
What Thriller had going for it was that it was first - it broke a lot of ground for a black artist on "white" radio and TV. His videos were some of the very first on MTV. As an album, Thriller does sound dated and contains a few filler songs.

Damn...u must be under 20 years old! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU PICK UP THRILLER. It is one of the best pop albums ever created. Off the Wall also falls into that category. To answer ur question, I would have to pick Thriller. I love PR, but it is not my favorite Prince album at all. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Purple Rain without a doubt. Though I think Thriller is a great album, I always viewed it as being overrated. I actually enjoyed "Off the Wall" more. I would even take "1999" over Thriller. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

He make 4 classic albums in 4 years, albeit two of them with his brothers, and yet in the last 20 yrs he could only come up with 4 albums that imo are at the very most just alright...just goes to show the 5 yr gaps in the long run were a bad idea.

It's like asking a black guy if they like white people or black people. that has to be the worst analogy ever, a better one to show that you know what the majority is going to say (and in ur case your ur naive self and immaturity) would be like, "it's like going to a gay bar and asking the guys if they'd fuck carmen electra"(no offense to gay ppl).

For me it is Purple Rain That is exactly how I was. PR just came and did something to me even though Thriller was my favorite album at the time when I was a kid. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Isn't it strange how well PR has held up over years and Thriller has done the opposite. It would be interesting to compare the catalog sales of the two artists after 1990. Does anybody have this info?

I think it's other way around. Thriller sounds fresh whereas PR sounds dated in some parts. You can't compare their 90s catalogs because Michael only released 3 albums in the decade "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

You can't compare their 90s catalogs because Michael only released 3 albums in the decade I was more interested in seeing how well their classic 80's albums have been selling over the years. I would guess that Prince sells a lot more Purple Rain albums these days than Michael sells Thriller copies (U.S. sales only).

Well, Thriller was re-certified this past November for selling 104 million. PR sells decently but not what Thriller has "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. Co-sign... they were both great at the time but PR blew Thriller out the water in my house... especially after the movie. I kept waiting for MJ to come back and out do it but IMO it didn't happen for me.
