Diamonds & Pearls I think Diamonds & Pearls is an all-around good song. It combines so much together, and I'd say its one of the pieces that shows off Prince's musical genius the best. TMBGITW, I could understand. The lyrics are so-so, would sound better if he delivered them with a little more feeling, but I like it for the musical aspects, especially the ending. Now that's beautiful. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I'm sick of hearing how great 'Fury' is. It aint great, especially for a Prince song. And before anyone says it, I really don't give a fuck about any versions of it which are considered better than the album version.

You so called Prince fans are all driving me nuts with your picks. You all got problems. I thought when I will click on this subject I would see mediocre songs but instead I'm seeing timely classics that people are dissing. Obviously everybody on this sight is on some type of drug or just purely insane. Damn! You just can please some people huh! Now before I get to my picks, I have beef with some of you. To those who picked "Little Red Corvette", "Kiss", "Purple Rain", "When Doves Cry", and especially "Adore"(my all time fave), you guys make me sick to my head. You are not real critics so who are you to judge what others like and criticize. Where's your multi-platinum album or song at? I didn't think so. Don't hate help create. Simple as that. Who cares what you think the only person who matters here is the creator himself, Prince. So as long as he's happy with it then I'm happy for him. And by the way man, good work. Keep it up. Now! For the dodo who said Prince is bored with Purple Rain and calls the song lame, you're wrong totally. First of all, how do you know Prince feels. Have you spoke to him? Did he tell you this personally? I didn't think so! If you knew the story behind Purple Rain than maybe you can understand it better. This song has always been emotionally tough for Prince because it (just like the movie character himself) has ties to his personal life. Especially to John L. Nelson. Who is no longer with us nor is Mattie his mother. Has it ever occured to you that Prince cut mostly all his songs short in his concerts (which I've been to several over the years) because he is on a time restraint and he has so many songs to sing that its virtually impossible to sing the full version of any of them. And maybe he doesn't want to sing "Purple Rain" because it affects him emotionally and not becasue he's bored of the song. He's sings that song for us because he knows that is what we as the people want to hear. So next time check your facts before you make statements like that. I'm done. Peace ingrates! Oh! I forgot my picks. "For You", Prince's debut is overrated to me and its only a classic because its his first LP and not cause its good. Its okay at best. Second, "Rainbow Children" is overrated to me for the same reason as the first. It's okay. Third, "Chaos and Disorder". I have the Cd but I hardly play it because its my least fave that Prince has ever put out. I'll put For You and
Rainbow over this one. Chaos is the least fave here in the D. Even my circle of friends didn't care for it. It was put together to me with no effort. Just to get out of WB's contract. He never plays any songs from it so he must doesn't care too much about it either. And that's my picks. If you don't like it, kiss off and who cares. Bye now. Peace and be wild!

You act like I'm your enemy or something. I've done nothing to you. So if you want my respect you better show some first. I never said I was God. Don't put words in my mouth. You must have a grudge against anybody who sees things different as you. I don't verbally abuse anyone like that. My mother raised me better than that. Who raised you? I don't hate anybody who didn't like those songs, I just don't understand why? That's all I'm saying. Heck, I don't like everything Prince puts out either and he's my favorite artist of all time. But those are usually the songs that are not the big hits or ones played on the radio. That's what I was claiming to begin with. So if you have a beef with me fine. But I demand respect. And I will make sure to report you if this happens to anyone again. Peace! Peace and be wild!

LoDog said: You are not real critics so who are you to judge what others like and criticize.
There's something very important to remember about "real" critics; they don't have any special authority to decide whether a song is good or not. It's just an opinion and the fact that it's in a newspaper or magazine makes it no more or less valid than anyone else's opinion. I actually speak from experience on this. I graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and my first job was writing for the A&E section of a daily newspaper. For my very first assignment my editor reached into her desk, pulled out a stack of promotional CD's that the record companies had sent her and said, "I need you to write reviews for all of these". To be honest, it's very difficult to review music. Any two people can hear the exact same song and form completely opposite opinions. There’s this intangible part of music touches off something in our brains that either make us go "yeah!", "ugh!" or "meh". As a journalist, it's important to be objective and let people know what to expect without clouding your review with personal bias. A lot of reviewers cop out and simply over-analyze the lyrics. I always tried to go a step further and say something like "a collection of jangley, Beatle-esque guitar pop" or "the same drum loop you've heard in every other rap song this year". I was careful to avoid any personal bias such as "best album you'll hear all year" or "the 'Ice-Ice, Baby' of the 21st century". Still, what it all boiled down to was my opinion and what I decided to write. Having a job at a newspaper didn't suddenly give me a seat on the supreme court of the music biz. And just because it's not in print doesn't mean an opinion is not valid. But anyway...back to what this was all about: songs you just don't see the fuss over. I have to add my name to the growing list of "Adore" non-fans. I just never saw anything special about this song. It has a slow, plodding beat, punctuated by some random tooting of the sax and a very simple vocal melody. There's no catchy chorus, no killer guitar solo, no beautiful orchestral bridge. It's just 6 minutes and 40 seconds of generic R&B ballad. In my opinion.

I've never really understood the love some people have for "Everlasting Now." I'll admit, for the longest time, I kept confusing the song with some other ballad of the era ("Last December"?). I could have cleared it up by popping in the CD and listening but...never did.
(And I'm only assuming "Last December" is a ballad...I think it's what he played at the One Nite Alone/Louisville soundcheck, and I didn't like it then.) So this weekend I finally got out Rainbow Children and saw what all the fuss was about. 'Everlasting' is an okay jam, I guess. Dozens of other Prince jams blow it out of the water though. It will probably be another 5 years before I know how "Last December" actually goes, too.
