It may be a classic, it may be a masterpiece, buy hey, maybe everyone else is mad?

I'll start you off with a genuine biggy.....


I really don't rate "Purple Rain". I think its an average ballad, improved only by Clare Fishers work. The chorus is very average, when Prince can actually be bothered to sing it, rather than hold the microphone up to the crowd, because he is so bored of it himself!

Prince himself has been cutting the song down to one verse and half a chorus over the last 20 years. Even he is bored of it!

I've commonly hear everyone say that it is "the most awesome song on TGE"... or somewhere along those lines... Sure, it's an okay song and I still play it, but I don't think it's spectacular.

The fact is that Prince wrote songs that are just greater than "Little Red Corvette". As much as I love his dancing in the video, it doesn't stand against some of my other favorites: When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Gold, The Beautiful Ones (to name a few).

Cream

It's "okay". To me, this is the "Prince paint by numbers song". I like it, but everyone got so excited about it. It went to #1 in the country... and I think it's Prince's last #1 hit.

Gett Off was on the radio for about a "minute"... and I was still diggin' it when people were raving about Cream. I never got into Cream. I dig the video... but don't think there's anything special about the song. If it hadn't been released as a single, it would have died a quick death.

Now those of you who put Adore in this category are just IDIOTS (with all due respect. lol)

In fact... think about the sheer artistry in the lyrics to Adore... i.e. "If God 1 day struck me blind, your beauty I'd still see... Love is too weak too define just what you mean to me." Wow.

Then think about Cream. "Cream, get on top. Cream, you will cop. Cream, don't you ever stop. Cream, shoo boogy bop." WTF?

It's laughable. I'm surprised it wasn't written by N'Sync or Britney Spears.
