New Diddy remix samples Erotic City? Check out that remix to "Last Night" feat. Busta and Lil Kim. I can't figure out if he is actually sampling "Erotic City" or just recreating it. W/E the case, it's hot!

http://myspace.com/diddy I think they tried to recreate it, I would be surprised if P would allow them to use the original version. Like most fams, I would say that I prefer the original version. This track is another example of the way current singers are using previous musical work and get the credits from it. I just wish they could create something new themselves All the best, Suzie "Girly Man Man Man..... Kill her kill her kill her"

Sounds 2 me like they sampled the drums and added a reverb or flange efx, then slowed it down a bit.

yea i thought the original sounded When Doves Cry. this one is totally Erotic City tho. i like it damn it! maybe it'll make the kids look more into Prince. and then they'll be disappointed to find that he doesn't sing it anymore. :p

http://myspace.com/diddy I heard this version twice over the weekend...I didn't know if it was a Diddy remix or if the local radio station had done it. I think he is just sampling the drum pattern. "Always blessings, never losses......"

I don't like it. I am not a Diddy fan and I think he is boring.

el_callejero Diddy is mediocre at best. I have already listened to Erotic City and it was in the 80"s. If you sample a great song, and use a cliche' like, "we don't need no water" I think you are in over your head. I think he thought if he added a few cuss words it might make up the lack of original lyrics. There is nothing original about this latest disaster from Diddy. DiddHee is clueless.

One of my students- new this semster- was playing Diddy's $#@!, so I made a face: (It was "down-time")
I pulled out my iPod, hooked it up to speakers, and played the beginning of "When Doves Cry". He said "Who's that?!" The other kids in the class, who've been in my class before, started laughing- they knew what was coming: "PRINCE!!!" That kid said, "Oh. He sampled Diddy?" One kid yelled, "Hit the dirt!" and they all started hysterically laughing because they were waiting for I gave that kid a 10-minute lecture.... (Then one of the kids said, "U're gonna talk about him on that Prince.org aren't ya, Ms. S.?") "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

The thing is, I have a 'unique' situation. I teach Special Ed. to kids with emotional problems in a high school, so my classes are small and I get to know my students on a different level than the other teachers. Quite a few of my students are musicians themselves- they express themselves artistically in ways they can't with pen & paper.
We get into debates about music all the time. Most of them respect my love for Prince and I teach them about him, and I learn about what's going on in their world. (BTW- John Legend's "PDA: We Just Don't Care" was written, produced, and the piano & bass were played on the album by one of MY former students! Disclaimer: he didn't necessarily have problems, tho. He cared more about music than school & got caught up in the system ) "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

The question is that when this hits the dance floor and the resident DJs spin this in the club ... you know Erotic City is going to be mixed in or out of.
The question ... will this track get a bigger response than Erotic City when the mix is played? Will anyone really care? Better yet, is Sean Combs going to give credit where credit is due? Whoah, what did I just hear? "It ain''t ova! It ain't ova!" Hmmm, where did he lift this? [Edited 4/26/07 19:52pm]

[Edited 4/26/07 19:52pm] I thought it was started by Prince back in 2002 during the One Nite Alone aftershows and Xenophobia:Celebration? Maybe not? Was Prince taking this from Guy? I gotta dust off my only Guy album and take a listen. Groove Me by Guy [Edited 4/26/07 20:07pm]
