The First Time... What was the first Prince song that when you heard it you went, "Uh, oh..." and just knew at that point you were going to be hooked and in for the long haul.
Mine was Raspberry Beret. Fisrt time I heard it I was like "what the heck is...." Then all of a sudden I couldn't stop listening to it then I hit a frenzy... Steve Martin~"Where did Prince go?"
Beyonce~"Prince is looking into his magical mirror of relfection." *Gotta love SNL

Purple Rain. I'd heard Black Sweat and When Doves Cry before that but Purple Rain hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it was so beautiful. *sigh*

"Uh oh" never really came to mind when I first heard Little Red Corvette... I knew that once I heard it (and saw the video with Prince dancing), I'd be hooked. However, "uh oh" did come to mind when I heard "Computer Blues" for the first time... actually, just cuz I thought it was 'Darling Nikki' But I still think "uh oh" when it comes to mind cuz once its in there, there's no getting it out. Good thing it grew on me and now I'm crazy about it. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Seeing the 2nd half of the movie definitely opened my eyes to who Prince really is. All I knew b4 that was that at one point, he became "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince". I didn't know if he ever became Prince again or what. I just knew that he did a song called "1999" and my dad had his songs "I Would Die 4 U" and "Baby I'm A Star" on his mix CD. The movie showed me that he's an amazing songwriter very dedicated to his music and really knows how to put on a show. That's when I became a fan initally and checked out his work whenever it became available me. I didn't dive into this world of being a HUGE fan who has Prince on their mind 24/7 until the HalfTime Show. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

probably "17 Days" or "Erotic City"
it was one of those b-sides from the Purple Rain era that gave me a whole respect for b-sides in general because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

When I went out to purchaseI the 1999 album, because of the title song,
I thought I was buying just another album by an artist whom I liked like all my other fave artists at the time. When I first heard Automatic, Something In The Water & Lady Cab Driver all back to back, that's when I first realized that I was a fanatic. Thw whole Purple Rain album cemented that realization.

I was 13 when I bought the controversy album. I knew it was dangerous item to bring home, so I had to hide it. "back in the day" LP's were much hard to hide and there weren't back packs yet I hid between my notebooks and had to sneak out just the vynil and listen to it on head phones. Devious bastard. My parents like prince now, but still not that album. I taped on cassette immediately. FYI - the poster inside never made it up on the wall
